I love this name. It sounds quite feminine. Why not for a girl?

Not nice, imho. Sorry.

belgo · 30/05/2011 16:50

It's a boy's name. What about Elle? Or Ella?

belgo · 30/05/2011 16:50

or Harriet?

No. Stop watching Scrubs.

toomuchtimeonline · 30/05/2011 16:53

I love it! But dh vetoed it Sad

madwomanintheattic · 30/05/2011 16:53

dd1 had a female elliot in her class before. it caused countless confusion, but if you like it, and like ellie or els, then it's ok. (she was elliot, no diminutive btw, but you never know whether it'll stick or not)

i don't like or dislike it tbh. bit of a meh name for me.

Wottywot · 30/05/2011 16:57

No !

GwendolineMaryLacey · 30/05/2011 17:05

Because it's a boy's name.

4madboys · 30/05/2011 17:19

nope i have seen a prog about a family with sextuplets, they have an older daughter called Elliot, its american, and they spell it differently tho i think, it was on one of those living channels. anyhow it actually seemed to suit her and grew on me as a girls name :)

valiumbandwitch · 30/05/2011 17:37

I prefer it for a girl. Always found it too girly for a boy.

squeak2392 · 30/05/2011 17:39

I love it!! I'm considering it for both a boy and a girl :)

ChessPiece · 30/05/2011 17:41

I once knew an Ellia.

lalabaloo · 30/05/2011 17:47

How strange, I was wondering the exactsame thing this morning, I love the name for a boy or a girl to be honest. I think my family might not like it for a girl though (i also need to actually get pregnant first before I pick names)

belgo · 30/05/2011 17:52

yes I find it too girly for a boy; and just ugly for a girl.

rachel234 · 30/05/2011 21:04

Elliot Reid comes to mind. Ellie is a lovely nickname imo.

rainbowrain · 31/05/2011 09:32

I love the name Elliot but for a boy. If i seem to remember, Elliot in scrubs was called that as they thought she was going to be a boy.

Why not use, Elle, Ellie, Eleanor, Ella, Elsa?

Eglu · 31/05/2011 09:33

I asked this a while ago and got negative responses. I think it is a great name for a girl.

snowshoes · 31/05/2011 10:33

No. I don't like boy's names on girls. The boys must get so sick of it!

tummytickler · 31/05/2011 11:40

No! I would hate to be a boy called Elliot only to get to school and have to sit next to a girl with the same name (same goes for Robin/Rowan and othe boys names on girls).
I do like it for a boy though. It is one of dh's middle names.

Hatterbox · 31/05/2011 12:06

It's a boy's name.

There are countless girl's names out there, why do people have to keep using boy names on girls?

OddBoots · 31/05/2011 12:30

I like it, if I were to have another daughter I would go for a unisex name having been given food for thought by a feminist thread here.

mayanna123 · 31/05/2011 14:48

It is becoming more unisex along the lines of Rowan and Morgan. The nicknames of Elliot certainly sound girly to me (Elle, Ellie)

onlylivinggirl · 31/05/2011 14:53

How about Ellis? I've seen this for girls and boys

JanMorrow · 31/05/2011 16:38

I know of two baby girl Elliot's.. not to my taste but it's not unheard of eh!
