Iona Fiona Ann: silly?!

We don't know whether we're having a boy or a girl (due in about a week's time), and are really struggling with girl's names.

We both really like Iona but would like to include our mothers' names as middle names: I think Iona Fiona Ann sounds too silly and Iona Ann Fiona doesn't sound right; hubby thinks either sounds okay. Just wondering what others think - the other name we both like is Erin.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Some of these responses have really made me laugh, but thanks for them all anyway Smile

There are family politics involved, in that there are two birth mothers and a stepmum - Fiona and Ann actually covers all three. I already have one DD and we ignored the issue last time; perhaps we should ignore the issue this time, too! Of course, it may be a boy in which case we're sorted as we've found (normal, honest) boys' names a lot easier.

Anyway, as I've already said, I'm not tempted at all to go for Iona Fiona as it's not fair on the poor child - hubby still needs convincing though!

Thanks for all replies.

Please don't go for Iona Fiona. It made me laugh, but that's not a good thing.

Sod the mothers, it's not the law to name after grandparents esp if the situation is a complicated one. I'm sure they'd all rather you gave her a non-comedy name than try to please everyone.
You could however say that Iona is named after Fiona.

Iona Fiona sounds silly.
Iona Ann Fiona sounds like Iona AND Fiona -silly again.

Personally I would go with what won't cause embarrasment to a child and ignore family politics but that is me.

Ignore the family names and use the name you like.

It reminds me of that book Hairy McClarey from Donaldson's dairy.
