What do you think? Would it put you off that it means 'inability to read'?

is OK. Lexie is quite trendy now. I know Alexa and Alexis (both Lexi) but never heard of Alexia. I does put me off a litle knowing what it means!

weimy · 23/05/2011 20:51

how about Alessia?

MeantToStopAtTwo · 23/05/2011 21:16

Thanks but I'm not a huge fan of Alessia.

I'm starting to think that Lexie is becoming a bit chavvy now (with lots using it as a name on its own). Thoughts anyone?

Yep. We didn't use alexa for this reason. Shame because I do like it.

MirandaGoshawk · 23/05/2011 21:42

Haven't heard of Alexia. It's OK. Prefer Alexa - I have a friend called Alexa and she is very classy!

MeantToStopAtTwo · 23/05/2011 21:56

Yes I think I prefer Alexa too actually. Billy Joel has a daughter named Alexa. She must be about 20 now.

This was a favourite name of ours, until we found out what it meant. I'm afraid it did put me off. I like Alexa, although I didn't like it at the time; I thought it was rather harsh sounding, so we didn't use it, but it's grown on me since. I also think Alexandra is a good name.

I wouldn't describe the name Lexie as chavvy, although it is becoming increasingly common, and as you say, many people use it as a name in its own right now. Personally I prefer the nn Alex to Lexie, but then I like unisex names.

mathanxiety · 23/05/2011 22:43

I also prefer Alexa. Alexia is a bit tth, and over-frilly. Alexa sounds much more classic.

cece · 23/05/2011 22:49

I think it is lovely and prefer it to Alexa

squeak2392 · 23/05/2011 23:58

Lol, I didn't know what it meant. I love it either way! I think if you're okay with Claudia and Cecilia, then this is fine.
I can't decide between Alexa and Alexia myself. It depends on if and how I use Alice or Alyssa.

I think Alexis is a lot more common than Alexa and Alexia, so it's not overtly chavvy.

HopingForAZoo · 24/05/2011 03:00

I have a niece Alexis so of course I love it. :)

MeantToStopAtTwo · 24/05/2011 15:48

What do Claudia and Cecelia mean?

OP posts:
oohlaalaa · 24/05/2011 16:22

I love it, also like the nn Lexi.

mathanxiety · 24/05/2011 17:48

Claudia refers to lameness and Cecelia means 'blind' and also 'sixth'.

MeantToStopAtTwo · 24/05/2011 18:16

Thank you. I had no idea about either!

Argh. Supposed to say Alexia. Stupid auto correct.

IntergalacticHussy · 26/05/2011 10:14

i think we've had this thread before. Alexia is an illness where you lose the power or speech iirc...
