Are you embarrassed about your name choice?

DH wants to call DC Barnaby (if it is DS obv.) and it is growing on me. However, when people ask about name ideas I am reluctant to tell them in case they laugh. This makes me think I may regret it when I am calling it in the supermarket! Will I get used to it (I do like it, just worry what people think), or do you still cringe a bit when you say your child's name, years on, if it is a bit unusual (or ponce-tastic)?

Lockets- Rex is a fab name
Freesias- I have read many of your posts and you sound sosad about your name choice for your dd4. It doesn't sound as though that feeling will change (and your justifiable anger at dh) Is it really too late to change?

I love my dds names but dd1's name is routinely critised as being too common or not a proper name on here which makes me sad.
When we chose it we didn't look at lists or even really think it through, in fact, on the top of a mountain in the Lake District dh said 'i love the name (dd1)' and i said 'me too'.
And that was that.

My son's called Dexter and was born before the TV series came out.I am getting a wee bitHmm at the 'ooh he might turn into a psycopath you know' comments, but it suits him completely and we have never met another one [yet!!]

I think you're best not to say till baby is born. Folk tend to open their mouths and let their tummies rumble when it comes to names when he or she is still a bump ("oh - that's was our dog's name" or "he'll need to be a good fighter with a name like that") but once they're born MOST people have the good sense to screen their thoughts!

We liked Barnaby when we were expecting our eldest, but I find Barney a bit 'wet' and thought it would be inevitably shortened to this. Think Barns, which someone mentioned further up, is awesome though - much cooler. I know what you mean though - we liked Raphael (Raffy) and I had to seriously ask myself if I would feel daft when they called him at the doctor's and so on and unfortunately the answer was yes, so it was vetoed.

Both my boys have unusual names, Leander and Gabriel. We get comments ALL THE TIME about them. Don't worry about what others think, we don't.

LOVE Barnaby, btw.

Gosh, I didn't use Gabriel because I knew so many. It's lovely though.

We got such an awful family reaction to dd's ( completely inoffensive, I think) name that I try to be less judgy now? But,as others have said, someone is always going to be Hmm at your choice, no point getting too upset about it.
