really love the names cecily and cecilia and have decided to use one of these for dd.i prefer cecily slightly but worry it may be too cutesy while cecilia is maybe more "grown up"

i think cecily is now a stand alone name in it's own right and not just a diminutive , anglicised variant of the latin cecilia . oh disagrees and thinks cecilia is the proper , formal name with cecily as a nn .

would you put cecilia on the bc and use cecily as a nn to give her more options as she gets older . or would cecily be fine on it's own and if we put cecilia on the bc it will just cause confusion for her in adult life etc.

or are they 2 completely different names and we should just choose one

middle name will be annabel and surname is westcott

opinions please as to which you would use and why .

tia

I would put Cecilia on the BC and use it as her name because I prefer it to Cecily. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.

I have a Jamie who is a James on BC and everything else 'formal'.......There is no confusion. They are old enough to sort it out before it becomes an issue.

I think both names are uttterly beautiful!
My DD's MN is Cicely but I sometimes use Cecily!
Have recently watched Atonement in which Keira Knightley's character is called Cecilia, lovely!
Thinking about it, I would go for Cecilia as a first name.

my preference for cecily is marginal i think it would be very sweet for a little one but prefer cecilia in some ways as he feels more refined . would also love to sing cecilia your breaking my heart to her sad that i am .

i think dh prefers cecilia so will probably go for cecilia and use cecily /cicely as her nn

I much prefer Cecilia.

I agree that they are both separate names in their own right, I do prefer CeciliaSmile ...plus you have the best of both worlds by using the nn Cecily!

I think you are right and Cecily is a perfectly good name in its own right. And nicer than Cecilia. (Got that ruddy awful song in my head now arrgghh!)

Yes the Simon and Garfunkel song!

Oh Cecilia you're breaking my heart..........That was one of my favourites. I'm going to be singing it all day now.
