DD1 is Annabel, known as Annie. Our surname begins with a W. Which name do you prefer out of Alice v Pippa v Charlotte v Verity? Thanks for your very honest opinions...

Penelope/Penny is very pretty, and quite unusual without being unheard of.

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 16/05/2011 12:42

We have similar taste, I have a Charlotte (who is a Lottie and never charlie) and your other names were all on my list for DD2 with the exception of pippa. It came down to Penelope and Dorothy in the end.

We also liked Helen and Elizabeth, if you want other names to consider of these type.

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 16/05/2011 12:44

Meant to say, of your initial short list I like Alice best. DH vetoed it because of the who the f is Alice song.Hmm

ohdoone · 16/05/2011 13:45

Pippa means wank in italian and blow job in greek- probably one to steer clear of!

Verity is lovely.

youretheoneformefatty · 16/05/2011 13:48

I like Verity too. Would've liked it if this next one turns out to be a dd, but our surname starts with a V so a bit of a mouthful, I think!

highlystrung · 16/05/2011 18:28

Verity is the nicest. Lovely name.

Not Pippa! The wank factor makes it a no-go and there may be more to emerge about the family, bankrolling by the Uncle Gary's millions, perhaps.

It's amusing that the Middletons gave their children quite a few of the Royal Family's names - Philippa is a nod towards Philip, Kate's middle name is Elizabeth and then there's James - Harry would be proud.

I think that Pippa may well become the next Chardonnay due to the obsession with her hind quarters and it will be seen as a 'posh totty' name by those who like googling Pippa and Arse.

If Kate 'n' Will have a girl, I think that Alice will be a strong contender.

Both Alice and Charlotte are attractive names.

ClipArt · 18/05/2011 14:58

If the OP isn't in Greece or Italy does it really matter if the name is slang for something in those languages?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 18/05/2011 16:09

Agreed ClipArt. I'm sure loads of names have dodgy meanings somewhere on the planet. It's all a bit childish. And who gives a toss about the Middletons? She's not the only person ever to be called Pippa.

KittyBigglesworth · 18/05/2011 17:45

Apparently enough people for the Google predictive search to spell out 'arse' when typing the name Pippa. I was searching for a colleague a week ago and could not believe that anyone would go to the effort of looking for this, what do they expect to find? I know 3 Philippas, however if you asked for a 1 second answer to the word Pippa at this moment in time, many would give an answer relating to the most famous one - it's an unavoidable link, for the time being.

If I was checking into a hotel in Greece or Italy, if I could possibly avoid it, I wouldn't want ejaculation as the receptionist's mental image as I introduced myself nor would I want to attend receptions, work meetings, meals and not understand the look of mirth when giving my name. It's not the end of the world, Philippa could still be used. Nothing wrong in the OP considering all opinions and being aware of international connotations.

greenrock · 18/05/2011 17:49

I think Alice is a nice name for a little girl but I know a couple of middle aged Alices and the name seems wrong for them.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 18/05/2011 17:51

Well I'm sure the many Pippas have coped over the years...

KittyBigglesworth · 18/05/2011 17:59

Certainly!

stayfree · 18/05/2011 22:21

I love Verity but dh was never keen. My mum considered it for me and I'm an Alice :) which I didn't like but like now. Don't like the others, sorry.

vess · 19/05/2011 15:57

Alice is nice.. and Philippa (not just Pippa).

cumbria81 · 19/05/2011 16:13

I like Alice. The others aren't that great. Verity is ugly.

worm77daisy · 29/05/2011 15:11

Thank you for everyone's advice... we have settled on Charlotte Alice to go with Annabel Grace. They will be known as Annie and Lottie whilst little, and we feel there is enough scope in either name to change it as they feel fit and grow up. It'll probably end up a boy now and then we'll be in a real pickle!!

Am due to have ELCS this Friday.

I love Alice but I don't like dc having same first initials so would avoid as you have Annie (which I love).

I would avoid Charlotte as I know lots of naught ones (I work in a secondary school!). Mind you, we've ruled out so many names because of this.

After giving birth to dd, dh handed over all rights to name dd - although I did check he liked the name.

Lollypolly · 30/05/2011 13:52

I have a 6 year old Charlotte Ann and a 2 year old Verity Elizabeth so love your choices Grin
