DH and I are planning another DC soon. Starting to think about names and wanted peoples thoughts on this. I do tend to like old man names but am worried it may become the next Alfie or Archie. The full name would be put on the birth certificate though.
Starting to think about possible names early because if my DD born last year had been a boy she wouldn't have had a name. We had 9 months to decide and couldn't come up with a boys name we both liked Confused - I'm not completely mad honest Smile

I think all Alfie/Archie/Albie/Bertie/Charlie/Percy type names have a very 'fashionable' feel and may date more than more solid, classic names. I would definately give the full name, so Alfred, Archibald, Robert/Albert etc.

Hedwig3 · 12/05/2011 10:05

I know some children with these 'ie' names that have the edge and those are the ones that also use the full name.

My son has a good friend called Charles nn Charlie and he answers to both which I think is lovely.

Nice name, but i would definately use the full version. Also gives more options when the child gets older.

I'm not keen on Bertie, I'm afraid. Looks toomich like Bert (from Sesame Street).

MelinaM · 12/05/2011 17:32

I absolutely love BertieSmile Albert is fab too!

pilates · 12/05/2011 20:33

I like Albert nn Bertie, whats your DD's name if you don't mind me asking?

flopsy1974 · 13/05/2011 09:36

DD's name is Martha, I also have a Patrick and a William. Yes, I know I am quite possibly mad going for number 4 Smile

I like Bertie (and also Albie as a nn). The only thing is that it may well become another Archie/Alfie situation - lovely names but a lot of them.

pilates · 13/05/2011 13:19

Henry
Jacob
Ethan
George

sonniebonnie · 13/05/2011 14:10

I'm not keen on the current trendy cutey type names (Alfie, Archie, etc) and don't like the Bert bit in Albert.

With you other children's names how about
Edward
Thomas
Quentin
Gregory
James

flopsy1974 · 13/05/2011 14:39

Can't have Henry, Ethan, Thomas or George beacause there are others in the family. Just don't like Quentin. Really like Edward and is a possibility, but again I'm concerned about how mant there are out there.

I quite like it and it's the only 'old man' name that i like!!! Also the long form, Albert is not bad like Alfred/Archibald.

Happygochuckie · 13/05/2011 16:22

Oh Berte is a fab nn - My close friend is a Gilbert - which does not suit him at all, but Bertie is what we know him as and I can't imagine him as anything else. He is 23 and loves his nickname.

sonniebonnie · 14/05/2011 16:39

Albert is nice, but Bertie is too close to Bert imo. And it may date like Alfie/Archie etc.

mich54321 · 14/05/2011 20:09

like Albert with Albie as nn

Amateurish · 23/05/2011 15:24

DS is Albert nn Bertie. Great name, love it.

EricNorthmansMistress · 23/05/2011 16:17

Robert nn Bertie is much nicer.

LetThereBeRock · 23/05/2011 16:28

Albert and Bertie are horrid names imho. Definitely the next Alfie/Archie.

bananamom · 23/05/2011 17:56

So many Albert/Albie/Berties being born of late. It will definitely do an Archie/Alfie along with Arthur/Artie.

shoobidoo · 23/05/2011 18:57

I have to agree that, while Albert is quite nice, Albie/Berti sounds very 'faddish' along the lines of Alfie, Archie, Artie - these names will date soon imo.
