India - way out or beautiful

We love the name India, but I'm a little worried it might be considered too different. The baby wasn't conceived in India and there isn't a particular reason apart from that we love it. DH thinks it's great. I'm just interested to know if people think the child will have any difficulties with it at school / in life etc - we want her to love her name.

websticks · 11/05/2011 10:24

beautiful ,if ds had been a dd we were going to name her India with Indi for short

curlyredhead · 11/05/2011 10:30

Not too different, I don't think, it's not used loads but enough that it's not completely way out.

I really like it.

greencaveman · 11/05/2011 10:32

I do think it's quite pretty.

However, every time I hear it, I just think it's the name of a country.

RugbyWidow7 · 11/05/2011 10:40

thank you for your thoughts! Although this is absolutely our fave we do have a celtic / Irish last name, so not sure it really goes too well... argh. Thought we had it at last!

don't find it too way out

TeamLemon · 11/05/2011 10:45

Beautiful, but old hat.

ElsieR · 11/05/2011 11:14

Love it.

highlystrung · 11/05/2011 12:15

Love it - really nice

mamma2boyz · 11/05/2011 12:20

I really love it, and not many of them about so I say go for it!

AnonymousBird · 11/05/2011 12:21

It is lovely, but it's a bit "done" really. A bit "trying too hard" IMHO.

But it is a beautiful name, I can see why you like it.

Agree it's a bit "old hat".

MelinaM · 11/05/2011 12:33

It is a lovely name, but I also agree that it's "old hat" now.

RugbyWidow7 · 11/05/2011 12:53

Thank you all. If you come up with anything similar sounding, please let me know! Back to the drawing board.

I love it. I don't think it's 'old hat' but it's not kerraazy 'out there'.

largeginandtonic · 11/05/2011 12:58

Love it. We called our last dd India. I like Bluebell more and name changed her shifting India to a middle name when she was about 8 weeks.

I still love it though. We had no weird reactions to her name when we annouced it. Have had a few to Bluebell though.

Incapinka · 11/05/2011 13:12

Love it - would have liked it but our surname is a country too so that wouldnt have been great!

RugbyWidow7 · 11/05/2011 13:17

Does it matter if it is followed by a very Irish last name? I'm starting to think it prob does

ZZZenAgain · 11/05/2011 13:22

no don't think it would matter. You just have to get a nice run on sound.

sometimes it sounds daft, sometimes it works

Firawla · 11/05/2011 19:07

i think its nice and not too weird at all

Incapinka · 11/05/2011 19:18

Are you prepared to tell us what the irish name is? Would have thought it would be fine...

SenoritaViva · 11/05/2011 19:21

Not too different as I know lots! It is becoming quite common. I like it.

SenoritaViva · 11/05/2011 19:22

As long as it sounds good together I wouldn't worry about the Irish name.

HerRoyalNotness · 11/05/2011 19:22

Love it, would suit darkhaired children more than fair though. Only know of one here, she has darker complexion.
