Another one to ponder... Meaning 'little fiery one'...?

I have a very dear friend with this name - she is Italian of course. We call her "Fia" Smile

WinkyWinkola · 10/05/2011 23:36

No.

I thought it said 'Flammetta'.

It just looks like a disease either way.

MollysChamber · 10/05/2011 23:39

Fiammetta / Vienetta the "classic" ice cream dessert.

No.

Fia is nice...Fiammetta is just bizarre unless of course you are Italian or live in Italy and even if you are Italian you should think of the child growing up in a place where that name isn't common and sounds a bit like a disease...sorry pinkwine... good luck with your little darling though. Fia is beautiful

Valpollicella · 10/05/2011 23:56

I like it. Can also be shortened to Etta.

Missmelo...by that reasoning, do all non 'English' names apply? "you should think of the child growing up in a place where that name isn't common"

Or just ones that 'sound like a disease'?

What kind of disease does it sound like btw? Grin

missmelo · 11/05/2011 00:26

No of course not, it was in no way meant to be perceived as discriminating against names from different cultures...I have a name that isn't 'English' its just more mainstream, there are beautiful Italian names out there that are more well known, Francesca, Allegra, Fedrerica etc.
When I hear Fiammetta it sounds like bacteria or a disease, sorry OP and Valpollicella....to my ears it just does.
P.S. I lived in Italy for 2 years and never came across a Fiammetta, perhaps it will suit your little one and our opinions here won't matter a curse to you, but in the mean time since u asked :)

tigercametotea · 11/05/2011 00:33

Fia is nice, I agree. But I don't really like the sound of Fiametta...

Valpollicella · 11/05/2011 01:02

But there are hundreds of thousands of children growing up in the UK atm who's names aren't 'common'. I really don't think anyone would bat an eyelid! DS's class is a great example of names, from ones in the top ten, to ones I have never heard of before.

Fiametta is quite an old Italian name btw, which is why it's probably not been her of in the usual range of Italian names mentioned above :)

Lollypolly · 11/05/2011 01:05

Makes me think of Waynetta, but Etta is OK....

MollyMurphy · 11/05/2011 02:19

Fia and Etta are cute.....Fiametta is not my cuppa.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2011 02:29

This is a daft name except perhaps if you are Italian, or your partner/husband is Italian, in which case perhaps no Italian now of sound mind would bestow such a name.

Refrain.

Find another name.

MelinaM · 11/05/2011 09:24

No!

valiumbandwitch · 11/05/2011 09:27

I know it's a proper name but to be it sounds like a contraceptive pill. Dianette and Fiametta. Oh dear. NO. Sorry. Maybe in Italy. But no.

daimbardiva · 11/05/2011 09:51

Also agree that Fia is lovely, but Fiametta just does not do it for me at all

Sounds like another name for slapped cheek disease.

IngridBergman · 11/05/2011 13:54

I have twin VERY LOUD horns on my Italian motorbike, which are called Fiammi Freeway Blasters.

That's what it reminds me of.

I think you need to reconsider. Smile

IngridBergman · 11/05/2011 13:55

Talking of diseases, has anyone seen the massive ads for the new jewellery range in H Samuel called 'Chamilia'?

The mind boggles Grin

wigglesrock · 11/05/2011 15:32

I am reminded on Vienetta, sorry, but I have a Sofia that gets shortened to Fia.

Bucharest · 11/05/2011 15:35

Anyone called Fiammetta is 98 and lost all their teeth a vehhhhhh long time ago.
It would be like calling a British child, er, one of those mad names you find on genealogy lists.

NettoSuperstar · 11/05/2011 15:37

No way, it's ridiculous.

PassTheTwiglets · 11/05/2011 15:39
