Maeve or Isadora?

These are my two very favourite girls' names.

My 10 year old son is called Finn (although I don't feel that the names have to match).

Which do you think?

Out of the two I prefer Maeve, Isadora is pretty and unusual though. Like them both actually.

mummissinghermind · 09/05/2011 21:55

Isadora every time, beautiful when little girl and woman. I so love it and i wouldn;t let anyone shorten it.

WinkyWinkola · 09/05/2011 21:55

Isadora. It's beautiful. Classic. Unusual. Elegant.

Bumperlicioso · 09/05/2011 21:57

Oooh, love both, both were on my list for DD2. Isadora will be a tough name to pull off, but beautiful. Really like Maeve too.

Selks · 09/05/2011 21:59

Maeve is lovely. Isadora is ok, but would probably get shortened to Izzy by her friends as she grows up.

captainbarnacle · 09/05/2011 22:00

Maeve. Isadora would look a bit ridiculous on a school register list and shouting it in a supermarket would be quite a statement.

Finn and Maeve work really well as a pair too.

tummytickler · 09/05/2011 22:04

Isadora is beautiful, if you want a nn Dora or Dorry is lovely! Maeve is nice enough, but a bit plain, and I think it will become very popular as an alternative to May/Mae.
I do not see why Isadora would be any more difficult to pull off than Isabella, Arabella, Dorothea and the like.

MercurySoccer · 09/05/2011 22:19

Isadora :)

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 09/05/2011 22:21

Love both. In fact, Isadora Maeve could well be a perfect surname/middle name combo.

WinkyWinkola · 09/05/2011 22:22

Colonel, you have it absolutely right! Lovely combo.

smother · 09/05/2011 23:03

Maeve. Absolutely beautiful!

Lonnie · 09/05/2011 23:27

Maeve I have never liked Isadora I think Dora is a harsh sound and I do not care for the nn Izzy and frankly I think it is impossible to not get that/

TheVeryAngryMumapillar · 09/05/2011 23:29

Isadora...love it. Alway have but DH wouldn't let me use it.

MelinaM · 09/05/2011 23:49

MaeveSmile

Isadora is a lovely name, but the potential Izzy and Dora are not!

Isadora is lovely.

Maeve makes me think of Mavis and hence = old lady. But to be honest I don't know exactly how it is pronounced. I admit I'm not very familiar with the name.

FinnMa · 10/05/2011 23:11

Thanks. I'm liking Maeve Isadora today. I think Maeve's more usable as a first name.

I loooove Isadora. Think it is my favourite name. Couldn't use it because it is too similar to my niece's name and too much of a mouthful with my surname.

Maeve.. And works much better with Finn too.. Are you Irish?

My sister is Maeve.. She's in her 30s now and has nor had it shortened or messed about with. She loves her name!

megbess · 11/05/2011 15:50

Isadora sorry really dont like Maeve.

Tuschinski · 11/05/2011 17:32

Love Maeve, though prefer is spelt Meabh.
find Isadora a bit much, it's nice enough but sounds like you're trying a bit hard or something.

oohlaalaa · 12/05/2011 14:09
