I'd pronounce it se-bast-ee-en

trumpton · 08/05/2011 23:46

And me .

Cloudydays · 08/05/2011 23:59

I'd pronounce it something like suh-BAST-chin. I'm from the States and everyone else I know pronounces it that way too. I had never heard the other pronunciations until I moved to this part of the world.

MelinaM · 09/05/2011 00:24

Se-bast-yen

DriverDan · 09/05/2011 07:55

I think I aim for Se-bast-ee-en but in everyday chat (I used to go out with one) it comes out more Se-bast-yen, he mostly shortened it to Seb though.

meditrina · 09/05/2011 07:59

Four syllables, but the last one unstressed: Se-bas-tee-un.

evamummy · 09/05/2011 10:20

I've heard it as Seh-BAST-chin. I'm not very keen on it, I'm afraid.

ggirl · 09/05/2011 10:24

se-bast-yen here
ee-en sounds affected

evamummy · 09/05/2011 10:29

what does "affected" mean Hmm?

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 09/05/2011 10:34

Seb

mopsyflopsy · 09/05/2011 11:58

Sebaschan when said quickly or Sebast-ee-an when said slowly imo. Seb reminds me of Seb Derm, a skin condition.

ggirl · 09/05/2011 12:08

affected
?adjective
1.
assumed artificially; unnatural; feigned: affected sophistication; an affected British accent.
2.
assuming or pretending to possess that which is not natural: Her affected wealth and social pedigree are so obviously false that it's embarrassing.
3.
inclined or disposed: well affected toward the speaker's cause.
4.
held in affection; fancied: a novel much affected by our grandparents.

Se-bast-ee-en.

Se-bast-yen is just a lazy way of saying it.

pinkwineandsensations · 10/05/2011 10:37

Hmm interesting...

I thought I read somewhere that it is pronounced 'yen' in english and 'ee-en' in french, or something like that...

Before that I also thought 'yen' was just 'ee-en' said quickly.

However, I once taught a Christian. I called him Christ-ee-en... but was corrected by his little brother who said 'he's not called Christ-ee-en, he's called Christ-yen'...

I have one who we call Seb-Ast-Chun quickly, or Seb-Ast-E-Een, if i'm talking properly which happens rarely Blush.

EricNorthmansMistress · 11/05/2011 23:02

Sebast ee an. Sebast chen sounds too american to my ears.

BooBearBoo · 11/05/2011 23:10

Bit like Will-ee-um or Will-yum Grin

Def Seb-as-te-un I think :) Although yen if said quickly.

oohlaalaa · 12/05/2011 14:09

Se-bast-ee-en

evamummy · 12/05/2011 14:17

The one I know gets called (by his dad) Sebast-Chen, which I don't like very much. I'm also not keen on Seb or Sebbie, reminds me of a skin condition.
