Should coralie be said to rhyme with orally or morally? Just out of interest!

My granny is Coralie and rhymes with morally, I really like it as a name.

Emelene · 04/05/2011 22:50

I say it to rhyme with morally. Otherwise its like the word chorally.
But for some reason Cora to me rhymes with Aura. Nice name. :)

To rhyme with morally.

Coralie is a lovely name, very pretty :)

I prefer Coraline, but then I'm a Neil Gaiman fan! Grin

Thanks for responses! Oh good I think it sounds much nicer if it rhymes with morally!

I'd pronounce morally and orally excactly the same (apart from the m of course) Hmm...

washngo · 05/05/2011 17:44

Oh I'd pronounce morally with a soft 'o' like the middle sound in 'hot' and orally with a harder 'or' sound like the final phoneme in the words door or floor. I guess it could be an accent thing?

Morally
not chorally

Maybeitsbecause · 05/05/2011 21:12

Morally.

Lovely name. Love Cora, too.

pixiestix · 05/05/2011 21:45

Another vote for morally. Very pretty.

NorbertDentressangle · 05/05/2011 21:47

The Coralie I knew years ago pronounced it to rhyme with morally

peeriebear · 05/05/2011 21:48

Another Gaiman fan here, I'd go with Coraline! :o

washngo · 05/05/2011 22:12

Coraline also v pretty. Just to clarify I'm not pregnant, it's just something I've been wondering about having seen the name written down but a few times recently. Both lovely names to go on my hypothetical list though!

More like "morally" - not quite the same as in morally, I say the "a" as schwa ("uh"), but in the name it stays "ah".

And I think it's a lovely name.
