Hello

We're expecting DD2 in a couple of weeks and have got it down to 3 names. Her sister is called Martha - a name I didn't think was very common but, since her birth, we've met several of the same age! Please let me know what you think.

Bryony
Hattie
Serena

Thank you!

I think Hattie's ridiculous as a full name, regardless of the fact that it's a nn. Harriet's a lovely name, while Hattie may not be taken seriously. Also, some people are just going to hear 'hatty'. Hetty's nice though.

I like Bryony and think Serena's beautiful but, although they do go with Martha, they're not names that scream out to me. I like Martha, but it still has an old-world feel to me, so I'd go for something similar in that sense, like Eliza. I'm loathe to suggest this, but Poppy often crops up on the same lists as Martha, so maybe that would be an idea. Then again, you don't seem to like the popularity of Martha, so maybe those aren't right for you...

Bryony lovely.

The only one I don't like is Bryony - too much like Brian for me.

Hattie goes best with Martha definitely, I love it! Really don't like Bryony. Serena is OK, but doesn't go with Martha I don't think.

Love them all - all were on my shortlist. Think Bryony or hattie might go best with martha.

i love harriet! bryony i don't like, but only because i know one and she is a right arse, i call her brian! Wink

Hattie, but only if you give her a proper name and shorten it down to Hattie. Hattie is generally short for Harriet, and Hettie is short for Henrietta. Both beautiful names!

It would be hard to make something of her life though as just a Hattie- can you imagine a doctor called Hattie? Or a lawyer? But as a Harriet she could be respected anywhere.

I have a Harriet (aka Hattie) and loved the names Martha and Matilda for DD2 but didn't use either because of the possible nickname Matty/Mattie. The thought of a Hattie and Mattie put me off!

I really like Bryony...it's pretty, yet very smart too
