Emily or Matilda

dh really likes emily but it is my best friends daughters name (she is 4 and we dont see her that often). I like it but wonder if it is a bit boring. I really liked matilda last year when i was pregnant but had a mc. Now i am not sure. My ds has two tilly's in his class and i wonder if it is a bit trendy now.

My other children are charlie and lucy ( may have blown my cover now) and we have a hard surname. I like a '-ie' sounding name.

What are you views on emily or matilda or do you have any suggestions?

both lovely names and sound nice with your other two.

How about Clara, Clarice or my fav name at the mo Emmeline?

confusedduck86 · 24/04/2011 10:53

I prefer Emily out of the 2

theagedparent · 24/04/2011 10:56

Matilda is nicest

CharlieBoo · 24/04/2011 10:59

Ahhh, my name is Lucy and my ds is called Charlie....my niece is called Emily....much nicer than Matilda IMO....

Idreamofsunshine · 24/04/2011 11:20

Prefer Matilda by far, I think Emily is pretty boring too.

tummytickler · 24/04/2011 11:33

I prefer Emily - more classic imo - Matilda is very 'now'.
However - I love the nn Tilda.

BigSooz · 24/04/2011 12:05

Both nice, but I prefer Emily. It has a more classic feel. There are a lot of Tillys about in a rather 'fashion name' way. Tilda = rice.

Cutiecat · 24/04/2011 19:46

I think i agree about the matilda being too 'now' i definately went off it when i found out there were two in DS's class. I like Emily but just dont love it as much as i loved lucy. Dh also likes Daisy but are three in DD's nursery and i have reservation about it not being formal enough if she wants to be a judge or something (going on her parents not very likely).

Thank you all for your input.

How about Charlie, Lucy and
Rose/Rosa
Constance
Georgina
Tabitha
Marlena (love this)
Annie
Beatrice
Elizabeth
Grace
Alice
Hazel
Mary
Helena
Sally
Polly

To me they have the same kind of vibe as Lucy, Emily and Matilda, but not as 'now' as Matilda, fit nicely with Charlie and Lucy. Any good?

Cutiecat · 24/04/2011 20:15

I do like tabitha for some reason and beatrice has always been a favourite (i love bea). I dint think tabitha goes with our surname but might run beatrix past dh. It was discussed for dd1. Hmmm thanks.

I prefer Matilda out of the 2 names and could always shorten it to Mattie if you wanted to stay away from Tilly.

MrsMae · 24/04/2011 20:32

Emily. Matilda is very trendy right now. Can't go wrong with Emily!

missmelo · 24/04/2011 22:12

Matilda, its so pretty, Emily is so everyday :)

Bumperlicioso · 24/04/2011 22:37

Matilda

MelinaM · 24/04/2011 22:56

I prefer Emily, Matilda (Tilly) is definitely one of those 'fashion names' that people with eventually tire of!

Cutiecat · 24/04/2011 23:12

Hmmmm. missmelo that is my concern with Emily but I already have a Charlie and Lucy which are also quite everday.

Part of me wants to go for something more interesting.

Go with Matilda, it's much nicer.Emily is a bit blah.

MayBankHoliday · 27/04/2011 00:35

Emily is lovely, much prefer it to Matilda (agree with MelinaM it's currently a bit of a "fashion name").

kittya · 27/04/2011 00:40

What about martha?

MayBankHoliday · 27/04/2011 00:51

Charlie, Lucy and...

Maisie
Phoebe
Holly
Sophie
Emma
Bethany
Daisy
Ivy
Chloe
Ruby
Mary
Hayley
Xanthe
Abigail/Abi
Josephine/Josie
Anna/Annabel/Annie
Susannah/Susie
Kathryn/Katie
Penelope/Penny

Astrophe · 27/04/2011 08:06

I think Daisy is 'short' for Margaret. Maybe name her Margaret, to be always known as daisy, unless she becomes a judge :)

Cutiecat · 27/04/2011 15:38

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I had thought Phoebe but we have to spell our surname all the time and so DH says it has to be something everyone can spell.

Astrophe - I can just see it now, "All rise as Judge Daisy is preciding."

We live in hope.
