Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

Boys
Sidney

Girls
Edith
Eleanor

Never mind your choice of names!
Is your name really Georgie and are / were you a girl?

Clary · 24/04/2011 01:05

I love those names!

Eleanor is quite popular tho, lots and lots of Ellies, one in most classes.

Edith is always quoted on MN as being "trendy" but I only know one under 11 personally, so hardly on every corner. (I know about 10 Ellas/Ellies).

Stanley and Sidney I love. Also in that vein: Albert, Alfed, Arthur, George, William (more popular) and Frederick.

My name's actually Georgina but everyone calls me Georgie. And Yes, I've always been a girl! Something to do with chromosomes I hear....

We've thrown so many names around over the years it's hard to remember everything we've considered. We've an unusual surname 'Cunliffe' so it presents come tongue-twister issues!

OK I wasnt being rude really, it is a serious question in my own baby naming trip.

My vote goes to Stanley and Edith.

No to Sid.
And agree with Clary far too many Ellies and Ellas.
Like Clarys Arthur, but you might end up with an Artie.

Georgie83 · 24/04/2011 01:14

Stanley and Edith are the ones we're leaning towards.
Edith Joan Cunliffe or Stanley David Cunliffe.
Too much?

Cross posted with your reply
Thank you Georgie.
Georgie is the name I want for this baby, but I want that to be the full name and the shortened version to be just George.
I have 3 boys with extremely unusual names and having real trouble because this one is a girl!

Having read your other thread I have to tell you...here Edith means when you get mocked in the boob. As in "ouch I just ran into the [insert item] and it gave me an Edith. " usually I wouldn't say anything as its your name choice, but you seemed to want to consider everything. Possibly this is only reigonal though??

Georgie83 · 24/04/2011 02:17

Thankyou! It's not something I've heard... as you say, it's possibly regional. What area are you in?

Sidney and Edith though Eleanor would be nice with your surname too. Stanley Cunliffe has too many L sounds too close together.

HopingForAZoo · 24/04/2011 21:47

Im in the US.

Georgie83 · 25/04/2011 00:20

Ah, perhaps this doesn't translate to the UK. Has anyone in Europe heard of it?

Wouldn't want to cause my daughter any ridicule if I can help it....

I love both your boys names, maybe Stanley more as sidney is very popular at the moment.

Out of your girls names I prefer Edith, again it is more unusual. There seem to be a lot of Eleanors around here at the moment. Edith sounds a lot ore interesting

Clary · 25/04/2011 12:25

Georgie I have never heard that wrt Edith (an Edith? as in a pain? not even sure I udnerstand) and the u-11 Edith I do know is someone I know pretty well Grin

I know a couple of small Arthurs (one is 12, one is 6) and AFAIK neither gets "Artie" or in fact any shortening at all.

mathanxiety · 25/04/2011 15:34

I never heard that in the US wrt Edith.

MayBankHoliday · 27/04/2011 00:43

I like Sidney, Edith and Eleanor.

Stanley is somehow more self-consciously "old man fashion".

HappyWifeandMum · 27/04/2011 04:37

LOVE Eleanora (slight change) with nn being either Elea or Nora... TOTAL win!!! :)

oohlaalaa · 27/04/2011 08:58

I dont like Stanley or Sidney. How about Seth, Sacha, Sandy, Sean, or Stefan

I do like Eleanor.
