I would love some opinions on Judith please. I am liking it more and more, and along with Miriam, it is creeping to the top of my list.
Unfortunately I had another miscarriage last month, so I am thinking about names to take my mind of things whilst we try again.
Struggling to think of good middlenames for Judith, feel it needs something frilly, although middle name for Miriam would be Rebekah, so any cool middle name ideas would be great!

Sorry to hear of your MC and best of luck as you try again.

I love Judith -- it's a real classic and a strong name.

Maybe Judith Annabel or Judith Isobel?
Judith Aveline/ Evaline/ Eve
Judith Emmeline/ Emily
Judith Willow
Judith Beatrice
Judith Eleanor
Judith Mireille

MmaIvvy · 23/04/2011 21:32

If I'm being honest....Judith for a baby? Isn't it a bit old?
Miriam is much nicer. I know a 12 year Miriam and she is lovely so I like that name by association.
Hope it all works out for you with the trying again.

valiumbandwitch · 23/04/2011 21:36

I really like it. As a pp says, it's a strong name. It's classic. Not to everybody's taste but I love it. I also really like Miriam.

Janoschi · 23/04/2011 22:52

I love love LOVE Judith and would have used it had the German side of our family not insisted on saying Yoo-Deet. Judy is so sweet for a little girl too. Best of luck to you - I also experienced MC and want to give you a big hug. (I'm now 36 weeks along.... you'll get here too!). Xxx

Middle names... will give it a bash!

Judith Louise
Judith Deborah
Judith Raine
Judith Lillian
Judith Penelope

I love Miriam, I think its beautiful and very underused. Judith reminds me of a librarian, but in a good way, its quite straight. Take care x

warzone · 23/04/2011 23:23

Both lovely names and very unusual, yet classic. Especially like Judith.

Judith Rebekah (why not?)
Judith Katherine
Judith Fiona
Judith Antonia
Judith Gabriella
Judith Ophelia

Best of luck!

Judith is a truly awful name to lumber a little girl with, please don't! I know three Judith's all of whom are in the 60-72 age bracket!

Jude is a nice alternative, but more suited to a boy I feel.

nooka · 24/04/2011 04:57

I like both Judith and Miriam. Jude is a very cool nn too. I now a 10 year old Miriam (known as Mimi) and have an adult friend called Judith (generally Jude).

All the names you like in your OP are very much from a similar part of the Old Testament. All three were pretty strong women. I think that Judith Rebekah sounds good too. Otherwise Sarah or perhaps Deborah or Esther?

Of course it could be totally a coincidence that you have picked three strong OT womens names :)

FanjoForTheMusic · 24/04/2011 10:34

Much much prefer Miriam, I think it will suit all ages and all appearances. Judith to me is a name for a stout plain girl. Apologies to all slender vivacious Judiths. Smile

tummytickler · 24/04/2011 11:00

Thanks for all your opinions and the kind wishes - I am very lucky to already have 4 wonderful dc's, just having trouble keeping hold of our last one.
nooka no coincidence that they are strong women. My other 2 daughters are named for family, and are also the names strong women we admired in literature and music, although not Hebrew names, but both our sons have lovely strong Hebrew names, and that is our preferance.
I have also wondered about Deborah as a first name (and Rebekah), but I do not like the short forms, but I love Judy!
Will mull over the mn suggestions.
Many thanks - any more ideas?

Judith Rosa (after Rosa Parks)
Judith Emmeline (after Emmeline Pankhurst)
Judith Katherine (after Katherine Hepburn)

Glad you like Judy - I LOVE Judy but just couldn't deal with listening to elderly Germans mispronouncing it for half the year.

Some folk here seem to think Judith is for solid women in their 50s, but this isn't the case over in Germany. I knew a couple of very funky students called Judith (with Dita nicknames). And I think if people view the name as old fashioned, you'll have a 10 year headstart before it gets popular!

Miriam is also lovely - it was also on my list, funnily enough!

nooka · 24/04/2011 17:17

Oh I didn't notice it was you tummytickler - sounds like you are a bit closer to picking your name then? Sorry to hear that your pregnancies for this last baby have been so problematic - I did think that you had been mulling over names for a long time.

nooka · 24/04/2011 17:18

I think that both Judith and Miriam would work as a good bridge between the names of your boys and your girls.

Love Judith, and Jude/Judy as a nn

snoozin · 26/04/2011 16:32

My daughter, Judith Ann, was born last year. We love the name and get lots of compliments. We call her Judy or 'Ju-ju' : )
