I am currently in love with the name Rupert, thoughts please!

I think it is a rather poncey name. Sorry.

It is quite cute as boys name go.

zozzle · 18/04/2011 19:52

Not my cup of tea - it would be on my list of worst boys names sorry.

Might work at Eton or Harrow or if you're really posh.

katydix · 18/04/2011 20:38

Haha, some people think it is posh but I love it!
My sons are called Archie and Rupert and we are not posh at all!
Our Rupert was kind of named after that gorgeous Rupert Penry Jones, who was in spooks at the time!

MelinaM · 18/04/2011 20:40

Love love, LOVE Rupert! It's a fabulous name, my cousin's Rupert but well all call him RupeyGrin Lovely name!

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2011 20:41

Lovely.

Prinpo · 18/04/2011 21:38

I love it, would be on my shortlist for a boy.

Al0uiseG · 18/04/2011 21:41

I love Rupert! If I'd have had a third boy he would have been Rupert. (I called the puppy Rupert)

Greythorne · 18/04/2011 22:13

One word: no.

exoticfruits · 18/04/2011 22:22

I agree-only one word 'no'

SolarPanel · 18/04/2011 22:32

Too posh for me.

TheBolter · 18/04/2011 22:35

No. Too aspirational. Even if you are actually posh, then it's too obvious.

I find it rather cringeworthy. Sorry!

Al0uiseG · 18/04/2011 22:39

I don't think its posh, I know it's been Cooperised but I find it sweetly English and slightly Blytonesque.

Florin · 18/04/2011 22:43

Love it love it love. We are ttc too and its on our short list along with Humphrey which seems to have a similar reaction. We mentioned the names to a friend after a few drinks who said no way are we calling any future children these names. We love them so will just keep our choices quiet now and only discuss them between us. Then if I ever get bloody pregnant when the baby's born just announce it and everyone can get used to it.

JellyBeansOnToast · 19/04/2011 00:22

Ruuuupert, Rupert the bear Grin

Actually really like it though.

JuicyOlive · 19/04/2011 00:26

I was about to sing but JellyBeans beat me to it.

weedle · 19/04/2011 00:29

I can't take Rupert or Humphrey seriously since I heard the absolute opposite of a posh mum screeching them down the aisles of Aldi.

Sorry should say I can't take "Roooooooperrr" or "Ump free" seriously Grin
It was like something out of a sketch show. She even had her rollie ready to go, hanging from the corner of her mouth and was buying a pint of whole milk and about 12 cans of cheapo lager.

(I was on the checkout so got to see them regularly this was just my first encounter)

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 19/04/2011 00:33

Rupert is actually quite a popular name in Ireland where it is typically shortened to Ruby (no class inferences). I like it.

Please not Humphrey.
The Rupert I know of is about 9yo and has (state school) teacher parents.
He is a bit wet, though, to be fair.

I think of Rupert as a dog's name.

cupofteaplease · 19/04/2011 06:42

I like it, but our family dog was called Rupert so I couldn't use it personally.

exoticfruits · 19/04/2011 07:11

Put alongside Humphrey it isn't quite so bad!

lefane · 19/04/2011 10:41

No too posh. Rufus?

MrsFionaCharming · 20/04/2011 21:52

I love it! It's Giles' first name in Buffy.

missmelo · 20/04/2011 22:04

I love it, when I told people I loved it they laughed at me though so the general consensus is that its laughable, I stll think its sweet
