Where do you live and how many Isabellas do you know? Trying to assess how popular it is. Also could you please help me think of some middle names. Thanks.

Without a doubt the most popular name where I am - and when you combine it with Isabelle and Isobel it makes it the number 1 name in the country.

I know lots. Some get Bella. The next most popular name after that has got to be Eva/Evie/Ava. Doesn't mean it's not a lovely name, but yes, extremely popular. They all kind of blur into one for me.

For a middle name, just choose someone iin your family you would like to honour and use their name, it's a nice gesture and really the only point of middle names as no-one will ever ask or care what it is but you.

MuffinMouse · 18/04/2011 14:03

There are three Isobels/Isabels in my sons Reception class. I have an Isabella. It is definintely more popular with the under threes now. Number 15 in England and Wales in 2010...

I see it as a popular name. Still love it - but it has made me decide to choose an unusual name for DC3

mopsyflopsy · 18/04/2011 14:06

VERY popular - at least one in every class in both my childrens' schools.

websticks · 18/04/2011 14:08

I know lots of isabelles/isobels but only one Isabella. Love Isabella much nicer than Isabelle and less popular here in manchester.

BibiBelle · 18/04/2011 14:11

I get SO bored with this It's popular for a reason. It's such a beautiful name.

fozzy, our DD1 is Isabella (family name) and she is the only one in her school. It suits her and she goes by Ella Smile We live in Scotland and I only know of one other who goes by Issy and she is years younger.

We love it, she loves it and I couldn't care less how popular it is. If popularity bothers you then don't pick it but I don't think that's a good enough reason for putting you off a name.

twinmumplus1inthetum · 18/04/2011 14:39

south east, no joke 15 - 20 off the top of my head aged 0 - 5

Perpetuallypregnant · 18/04/2011 14:44

I love it and I only know 1 Isobel.

WinkyWinkola · 18/04/2011 14:50

Prefer Isadora or Isolde.

munstersmum · 18/04/2011 14:52

Know 3. All seem to go by Izzy. Yorkshire.

SolarPanel · 18/04/2011 15:18

I know four.

It's a lovely name that has become popular for a reason, an extremely popular classic rather than faddy.

mayanna123 · 18/04/2011 15:18

Loads and loads here in Surrey....getting a little bored of it tbh.

youngjoly · 18/04/2011 15:32

I know lots of Isobels / Isabellas round here. I think I know at least 6 of the two names, varying in ages from 7 -1. I live in Gloucestershire.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2011 15:38

We named dd2 Isobel (she is a teen now) as neither of us had ever known an Isobel - we had no idea it was so popular. I think there are three in her year at school. It is a beautiful name though and tbh I couldn't give a flip if people think it's common or over-done - it's popular for a reason.

Isabella Joy
Isabella Daisy
Isabella Lydia
Isabella Clover
Isabella Hermione
Isabella Wren
Isabella Vivienne
Isabella Christabel

growing3rdbump · 18/04/2011 15:44

We're in the Midlands and it is VERY popular. New baby born to friend last night has been named Isabella.

stillstanding · 18/04/2011 15:44

I always wanted an Isabella since I was little. But alas by the time I got round to being able to use it it was RIDICULOUSLY popular and was totally put off. If you really love it, you must definitely go for it but I think that there are so many other gorgeous names out there which are in the same "stable" which means there is no need to go down a very well-beaten path.

tammytoby · 18/04/2011 21:05

It is VERY common here - I know four under the age of seven. Popularity does affect my perception of a name. Part of the 'beauty' of a name lies in the fact that it is 'distinguished' and any name that gets overused loses some of its 'specialness' to my ears. Yes, a name is popular for reason - but the more popular it gets the less it appeals to some.

I prefer Isolde or Isadora mentioned above.

spottyock · 18/04/2011 21:28

In my school there are a few (an Isabelle, Isabella, Isobel and Isabel all in one class alone!) my Goddaughter is Isabel and I know another Isabella. That's off the top of my head!

Lovely name though - I prefer Isabella. We live in Surrey

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 18/04/2011 21:30

Isabella Louise

Lovely name.

lovemyangels · 18/04/2011 21:38

My DD1 is Isabella Grace and had always said from being little if I were lucky enough to have a daughter I would call her that, she gets Bella / Belle allot, she is the only Isabella in her nursery, plenty of Isabelle's which is a lovley name but I have always loved Isabella.

meditrina · 18/04/2011 21:44

It's a gorgeous name, and although there were loads of the from about 2006 I'd say it's peaked - can't think of any I know in RL born in the last year despite lots aged 18mths to 5ish.

It seems to have been displaced by Imogen, plus there are continuing to be a lots named of Sophie and Hannah.

Jojay · 18/04/2011 21:46

I know 4 under 5, one known as Bella and 3 Izzy's.

hellokitty123 · 18/04/2011 21:57

I know lots of Isabellas aged 8 and under. We're in Surrey. I am starting to get a little 'bored' of it if I'm honest. It's a nice name but when you hear it does indeed lose some of its 'specialness' imo.

HooverTheHamaBeads · 18/04/2011 21:59

None in DD''s class.

I know two Isabelle's but that is all.

stillstanding · 19/04/2011 09:51

Love ColonelBrandon's middle names btw. Most of the Isabellas/Isobels I know have Rose or Grace as a middle name.

Tuschinski · 19/04/2011 13:05

I am in Ireland and don't know any other than DD.
