I've had some useful comments on another thread so here is our shortlist for baby boy due next month. We have some kind of issue/problem with every name which is why we're not able to choose (I am very fussy I accept this and we both find boy's names v hard) Do your worst

Ludovic
Wyatt
Euan
Seamus
Fraser

For info, we both really like Patrick/Paddy but can't use it as has just been used in the (close) family.

I like Ludovic. Meh to Wyatt.

springlambkin · 17/04/2011 19:36

I'm sorry, I just can't get past Ludovic.

You're very fussy about names, but this you'd consider? Why? Is there some sentimental attachment to it? Confused

petitdonkey · 17/04/2011 19:36

I only like Fraser and Euan from your list. How about Rory, Evan or Jago??

springlambkin · 17/04/2011 19:36

Sorry, meant to say, Fraser is ok Grin

blinks · 17/04/2011 19:39

me no likey

LiquoriceLila · 17/04/2011 19:45

I like Euan and Fraser. Ludovic is a shocker IMO

wolveschick · 17/04/2011 19:54

Only like Fraser.

Euan 'who's army' always comes to mind. Too many years listening to Terry Wogan I'm afraid

Northernrose · 17/04/2011 20:03

Euan or Fraser.

Having known alot of lovely Euan/Ewans and lived in scotland my whole life, I have never, ever heard anyone say 'you and who's army' except on mumsnet...therefore do not believe that is an issue in RL!

Both strong, known, but not common names.

missmelo · 18/04/2011 00:54

Ludovic - a bit out there, would need a strong personality to carry it off or the name will efine him

Wyatt - strong American old man name, posssibly unorthodox for UK in 2011

Euan - nice

Seamus - more normal but reminds me of a potato 'Seamus Spud'

Fraser - I think its cute

Winner for me Euan, runner up Fraser...least favourite Ludovic least favourite runner up Wyatt. Seamus is meh. Good luck :)

NorkilyChallenged · 18/04/2011 09:31

Thanks all, showed DH all the comments on this thread so far and it has been useful.

We were edging towards crossing Ludovic off the list anyway so the pretty unanimous reaction to it has confirmed that Grin Also Wyatt is off even though it's my favourite because he really can't abide it. I'm now hoping to get it as middle name but he is saying no Hmm

We are still undecided between the other 3 so keep adding comments and hopefully we'll settle the choice some time soon (though we could be debating it all the way to baby's arrival....)

Ludovic - sounds a bit like an insect.
Wyatt - Red neck tralier-trash. Sorry.
Euan - Not bad at all.
Seamus - Just LOVELY
Fraser - A bit 90s.

missmiss · 18/04/2011 10:09

Ludovic and Fraser are both lovely. Wyatt would have to become a Country & Western singer (I actually quite like it).

I HATE Euan and Seamus, but I hate most Irish/Celtic names: went to a very chavvy school where most of the pupils were of Irish heritage, so those sorts of names sound unspeakably common to me.

singersgirl · 18/04/2011 10:59

I think they're all OK apart from Wyatt.

Ludovic is a bit pretentious IMVHO but Ludo is OK (though a game).
Euan is quite popular but easygoing.
Seamus is unremittingly Irish to me, which is no bad thing in itself, but would seem 'trying to hard' for me as I've got no Irish connections
Fraser - I know a really lovely Fraser but think 'House of ...' all the time.

Wyatt - well, why? It's all so personal of course, but that just looks and sounds really ugly to me (whiny, watt, why? Wyoming, Wyatt Earp).

I shouldn't really post on these threads Grin.

deliakate · 18/04/2011 19:53

Euan about the only one I like. Does depend very much on your surname, and any celtic connections you have.

Lollyheart · 18/04/2011 20:58

Love Fraser the most, but I do have one Grin

squeak2392 · 26/04/2011 21:52

Ludovic - Okay. A bit unusual, but classic.
Wyatt - I like this, although you forum gals have stopped me loving it >.< I still don't see it as a cowboy, which loads of people have said, but it has dimmed the association for me of Wyatt from Charmed. Still on my list though Grin
Euan - Love this!
Seamus - Like, but liked more when I thought it was pn See-mus :p
Fraser - Okay

I'd say my favourite would be Euan, closely followed by Seamus and Fraser.
You can't hear that Euan has a lot of vowels, so I don't think that would matter even with a vowelly surname. I doubt the spelling problem would be any more annoying than any other ambiguously spelt name (trust me, I'm actually insulted when people spell my name wrong without even asking, and mine's completely normal). It's not like you've made it up or been 'inventive' with the spelling. Especially if you live in an area with plenty of Irish or Scottish.

EightiesChick · 26/04/2011 21:55

Fraser
