Do you like Stanley? Do you see it as classic and timeless or trendy?

I guess it is quite weak sounding. My main concern is that it's another Alfie type name.

One of my colleageus called her new puppy Stanley. NN Stan the Man. Have hated the name ever since.

It's a lovely name, but there are a fair few Stanley's about, I do think it's one of those 'cutsie' names like Alfie, Jake and, Toby that are very 'of the moment', I wonder when this trend will abate?!!!

I know a 4 yo Stanley,sis is a Violet

We called our cat Stan.

It was my dad's middle name (Stanley), so of course it IS an old name. But unlike say Arthur which just seems to be a classic old name, it veers IMO into the "old man chic current trendy" area. Which means I think it will date.

Not keen, sorry. Like Sidney though.

I do really like it as a name and considered it but just can't see it on a baby. A bit like Winston - dh and I were discussing this name yesterday and we both agreed it was a great name, but for an old man not a baby or child....Just can't get past that!

I hate the name for achild. My dad is called Stanley, and all I can picture is a short balding man.

Know a couple of Stanleys and they are really cool kids. Don't agree at all that it will be another Alfie name as Alfie is a shortened name.

It's a family name here and I quite like it. But it has been somewhat stolen by the Alfie / Archie brigade in Sunderland. (think pram numberplates with names on!)

i don't hate the name, but when i mentioned it to a friend she said that historically its very 'working class'. not saying i agree, but just adding to the debate!

Sorry but it is the next Harvey. Seems to be a name used by c*** mums here. I agree that historically (along with Sidney) it's a very working class name.

Alfie, Archie, Stanley, Cedric, Cecil, Norman. All of an ilk. Trendy and dated very quickly.

I'm afraid I hate the name - sorry.

I also dislike Sidney and Winston - which seem to be quite fashionable.

Met a baby Vic, a couple of weeks ago. Asked the mum what it was short for and she said Victor. Brave name choice - he was a very cute little baby.
