Adding a middle name - can this be done at a later date?

Long story short but I was wondering if I could give me DD, who is now 3, a middle name?

I've got to go and change my name on the birth certificate as I got married recently (to my DDs father). Now we never gave her a middle name because we couldn't decided etc, but now we're thinking that it would be nice to give her one (yes I know we've been idiots). She's already got a passport etc etc, so can this be done, or will it be simply too much hassle and I should just leave it?

I'm assuming your DD has her father's surname, and you want to put your married surname on her birth certificate? I'm afraid you can't change any of the names on her birth certificate, but you can add a middle name/change a surnames via a 'deed of change of name' (deed poll).

You might find this link, with it's handy flow chart useful for telling you what to do:

Thanks ever so much for the info.

Yes my DD has her fathers surname so it would just be an addition of a middle name and not changing what she's already got. And yes, I want to put my married surname on her birth certificate.

Long story short myself - my parents gave me 3 names, but always called me by 4 names - entered for school etc. The extra middle name was my dad's surname as my surname was my mother's name. Anyway, we changed it by deed poll when I was in my teens. Very simple & so although my birth certificate doesn't show my full 4 names, everything else does as I have simply sent in the deed poll with my birth certificate.
