Melody?

What do people think of this for a girl? I absolutely love it, but anyone I've ever mentioned it to hates it.
Is it too trendy?
(and try getting names by a teenage dd who seems to know someone with every single name ever invented!!)

I personally do not think it would be an easy name to pull off. It certainly would not suit me.

I like it as a middle name though.

BooBooGlass · 13/04/2011 16:47

It's not trendy, it's just awful

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 13/04/2011 16:48

It's the default name of every girl doll and pretend friend my 7yo DD has, so is a bit of a weird one for me. Having said that I don't think I'd think it was odd if I met someone called it, but it's not my cup of tea.

Missgiraffe1 · 13/04/2011 16:48

My dd keeps saying 'imagine the slagging she'd get if she was tone deaf and couldn't play a note!'

WalterFlipschicks · 13/04/2011 16:49

I like it

TheMonster · 13/04/2011 16:49

It's awful.

nancy10 · 13/04/2011 16:50

I think it's quite sweet!

pinkytheshrinky · 13/04/2011 16:53

bleurgh

SolarPanel · 13/04/2011 16:53

Very pretty, I like it :)

Missgiraffe1 · 13/04/2011 16:54

This naming malarkey is not easy. I know a little girl called Sadie, which I thought sounded awful - until I saw her. She's such a cute wee thing, and her name really suits her.

BikeRunSki · 13/04/2011 17:03

I am not sure I like it, although my sister's middle name is Harmony.

TabithaTwitchet · 13/04/2011 17:22

I knew someone called this. I think it is a bit "hippyish", but it grew on me. Although I spent quite some time thinking she was called Melanie, because I misheard when she was introduced to me (actually think Melody is much nicer than Melanie)

SolarPanel · 13/04/2011 18:46

How about Elodie as an alternative?

mistressploppy · 13/04/2011 18:49

It's a bit sickly sweet but I actually rather like it. Not sure if I'd have the balls to actually name my daughter it, though. Which is a shame. You go for it if you love it, don't listen to the haters Grin

Missgiraffe1 · 13/04/2011 19:29

Oooh, Elodie, interesting. I like that. But, as I've had Melody in my head for so long, I think I'd always feel as though there was a letter missing!

There was a Melody at my school in the 70s. I don't remember ever hearing it commented on, adversely or otherwise.
I rather like it; easy to pronounce and spell, and a nice meaning.

mistressploppy · 13/04/2011 20:47

I used to work with a nurse called Melody, and she was beautiful and kind - the sort of person you think must be a princess when you're little! Blush

Missgiraffe1 · 13/04/2011 21:44

tabithatwitchet it does sound a bit hippyish. Might have to invest in a tamborine and tie-dye frocks!

mistressploppy what a lovely comment! It's amazing how different you can feel about a name if you someone of that name.

I also love the name Josie, but my DD can't get by the fact that I have a Great Aunt Josie, so says it's an old person's name....

MelinaM · 13/04/2011 22:26

I've a friend named Melody (in her 30's), she loves and suits her name very muchSmile

It was the name of Harmony Parker's sister on the children's TV show 'The Queen's Nose' ..a bit of useless info for youGrin

Also the mn of Johnny Depp's daughter: Lily-Rose Melody Depp.

I like it, if you love it, go for it! x

cowboylover · 14/04/2011 00:55

I think its a great name and the only reason we are not using it is the shortening to Mel which makes us both think of someone we don't like!

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 14/04/2011 06:19

I really like it.

But Elodie might be less risky?

Emelene · 14/04/2011 10:25

My mum considered naming me Melody. :S I'm glad she didn't!

Personally I'd use it as a middle name not a first name...

Missgiraffe1 · 14/04/2011 11:31

It would probably be better as a middle name if I had a short surname, but as I have a 3 syllabil surname, so don't think that would work.

Elodie is growing on me, my Mum passed away last year. Her name was Ann, so if I have a girl, that's what her middle name would be - Elodie Ann..... ooooooooh, i like it!

(which inevitably means my teenage daughter will hate it!)

OP posts:
Hedwig3 · 14/04/2011 12:27

Elodie Ann is lovely.

A friend of mine is considering Melody and Merrily, her DH is hoping it is a boy!
