Do you think that Arthur will get more popuar with the Russell Brand film "Arthur" coming out soon?

The film's been panned by the critics so I highly doubt itGrin Arthur's a truly lovely name for a little chapSmile

burntsienna · 13/04/2011 01:54

I read somewhere that Arthur was Prince Charles's choice for William, but Diana vetoed it. It would have come back into favour much sooner otherwise. I think 'Prince Arthur' sounds very dashing. It is a name steeped in history, legend and romance. Very much due for revival, and I don't think it needs a film.

randomimposter · 13/04/2011 08:52

Don't think it will make any difference.
Already quite on the up.
was my dad's name, hence DS middle name
Love it.

SolarPanel · 13/04/2011 12:28

I think it will be fashionable in the same "old man" way as Alfie, Charlie and so on.

LittleMsH · 13/04/2011 14:15

My little boy is called Arthur. We had completely mixed reactions from he SCBU staff- ranging from "I've been working here 20 years and never looked after an Arthur", to "oh, old-fashioned names like that are coming back in". I love the name, obviously, and though I kind of hope it doesn't get 'fashionable' I don't care because it's a fantastic name. I don't think it is at all like Alfie though - Alfie isn't a 'classic'. Arthur is, like George/William etc, a proper solid classic name (in my opinion).

Arthur is a fab name, but as I have a daughter called Martha, it will always be a no no for me.

peanutbutterkid · 13/04/2011 17:11

It was slagged off mightily recently, wasn't it, on one of the cackling threads?

I reckon Bradley James makes "Arthur" a quite appealing name. Wink

Indith · 13/04/2011 17:18

I have no idea what Russell Brand may or may not be doing but I love Arthur. Dh wouldn't let me have it as our surname starts with an "R" and he thinks it sounds too much like "R for surname". Hmm

Arthur is a great name.

:) at flopsy.

CharlieBoo · 13/04/2011 22:03

It's not a 'classic' at all IMO. It's a trendy name and will date I think.

SolarPanel · 13/04/2011 22:16

It's one of Prince Charles' names.

MelinaM · 13/04/2011 22:17

I think Martha and Arthur has a kind of ring to it FlopsyGrin

usualsuspect · 13/04/2011 22:19

Its awful

Clary · 14/04/2011 01:08

Who knows. I never think these things have an effect, tho JK Rowling is surely responsible for a rash of Harrys.

Arthur is a lovely name Grin

It is classic actually; it was in the top 10 100 years ago, and dates back, ooh well quite a few years actually. Or what qualifies as classic?

Trendy in my book is a name like Sky or Summer that wasn't even a christian name until about 20 yrs ago.

I love Arthur. It was top of my list if Eleanor had been a boy. I was going through a medieval phase :)
