Hugo

I love the name Hugo, my husband disagrees. He thinks that the name is chavvy.
We have a list of baby names on the wall and he has kindly written after Hugo(boss)- meaning lots of certain types would call there child after a brand.
I don't associate Hugo with anything, quite the opposite!
Also, when our first DS was born I agreed to call him Edward, my husband said to me on the c section table "If we have another boy you can call him Hugo" I haven't mentioned this so far, number 2 DS is due a month from today! What do you all think? Should I hold him to this?
We can't agree on a name .

I don't think Hugo is at all chavvy; a bit posh if anything. Yes, hold him to it. Goes nicely with Edward too.

IAmTheCookieMonster · 11/04/2011 16:19

I think its a posh name too, it reminds me of the vicar of dibley. I like it!

TheVisitor · 11/04/2011 16:19

It's my cat's name and I like it. Grin

Hugo is the opposite of chavvy. I picture a Hugo with a sensible haircut and corduroy Boden slacks, sitting quietly in the drawing room playing with a jigsaw. Far too posh for my taste.

Liv77 · 11/04/2011 16:31

it goes nicely with edward and isn't chavvy.

I absolutely love it, DS2 is due next week and I have been campaigning to name him Hugo for the last few months. My DH, however, is not keen - he thinks it's too posh.

We've now got a shortlist of 5 names (inlcuding Hugo) and are going to decide once he's here. I do think that you have to find a name that you both agree on, but personally am hoping that DH will be more pliable and open to persuasion once he's watched me go through another c-section. Fingers crossed!

my cats name too... but I love it for a child but DH didn't!

bulletinthehead · 11/04/2011 18:51

Shuggy!

virginiasmonalogue · 11/04/2011 18:55

i think it's lovely.... and he did say you could choose!! Put your foot down Grin

nearlytherenow are you me?!
We sound like we have similar husbands!
We have a list of about 5 compromise names
Bertie
Hugo
Leo
Sam
and freddie- which he likes because it means we could have an Ed and a Fred or Fredward as I like to call them.
I have even suggested to my husband that he can give the baby his middle name so I can have Hugo, but the baby is due on the 11th May so I have a little while longer yet.

You have lovely taste - all your names are gorgeous! We have Hugo on our list and I don't think it is chavvy in the slightest. I adore Bertie too (it doesn't go with our surname). Hope you manage to talk your husband round if Hugo is the name you like best (and it sounds like you have had your heart set on it for some time) then you should go for it!!!

SolarPanel · 11/04/2011 22:50

Hugo is too posh for my taste. Leo, Sam and Freddie are nice :)

flyingspaghettimonster · 12/04/2011 01:42

The huge guy from Lost - is the only Hugo I know. Otherwise, I would say it is a yummy mummy 'I have an au pair and do yoga' name. Nice, upper middle class.

catinboots · 12/04/2011 08:59

I have a 13month old Hugo and we get so many compliments on his name!

He gets called Hugs, Baby Hugs, Hugzy or Hugo-A-Go-Go!!
