I'm too fussy...

I know it and it's driving me and DH mad.

We cannot find a name we both really really like. This is dc3 but first boy and find boys' names hard.

DH has decided his current favourite is Euan. Nothing wrong with Euan. In isolation I quite like it.

So why can't I stop saying "... and whose army?". Every. Time. He. Says. It.

I think he might throttle me before the week is out.

You don't really like it then!!!

I've never done this before but what about:
Flynn
Jackson
Roman
Oscar
Ronan
Michael
Shane

My top 7 boys names and I'm sharing with you!!!

MelinaM · 10/04/2011 22:37

^I'm thinking you're not a fan of Euan either! What are your DD's names? ...are they short/long, classic/modern, popular/unusual, do you want something similar for your DS? x

Dilligaf81 · 10/04/2011 22:39

For boys I like

Oscar
Samuel
George
Patrick
Gulliver (yes really)

I alway prefer Euan spelt Ewan (but you obv dont lik it so irrelvant really)

Forgetting Euan for the time being... what styles of names do you and your DH like?

A few random ideas for you...

Nathaniel
James
Daniel
Hector
Jacob/Jake
Saul
William
Evan
Maximilian
Dylan
Zachary
Aaron

Thanks everyone.

I'd rather not give my girls' names here as they'd identify me to anyone who knows me IRL but they both have French names. Boy's names in French tend not to work well in English pronunciation so we haven't really found anything we like. We're looking at Scottish names as DH is Scottish.

I don't like super-popular names (so definitely avoiding Oliver, James, Henry, William, Thomas, etc).

I could give you other names we have suggested to each other but you'd all laugh ;) I can't believe nobody finds my Euan joke funny [sob]

Recently added suggestions include (and remember I find some kind of problem with all of them):

Cameron
Fraser
Duncan (probably not though as don't like Dunc as nn)
Dominic (tho not sure about Dom as nn)
Ludovic (in theory I like it but can't quite picture using it)
Seamus
Isaac (is this popular? it's growing on me so I've forgotten why we originally discarded it from our shortlist for dc1)

We really like Patrick/Paddy but can't use it as it's been used in the family recently.

What about Owen? Close to Euan but without the joke. (Which is very funny, yes :) )

I like Cameron but it's a bit "common" here, plus I had a rotten boss once with a DS named this. Every other sentence started with "Cameron James" and proceeded to explain his latest brilliance.

I don't like Fraser, sorry.

I like Duncan, also really really really like Declan and Deaglan, which are close. :)

Dominic is ok, I know one who's called Nic instead of Dom.

Not keen on Ludovic although there is something to it

Really like Seamus!

Isaac is nice, I know two of them and they're lovely little boys. Both occasionally called Ikey as a family pet name :)

Names on our shortlist for our yet-to-be-conceived DC2 are: Jack (not as popular here), Rhys, William, Alexander, and Finn.

Good luck! :)

Mum2Pea · 11/04/2011 11:49

what about Evan?

not dissimilar to your OH's choice but maybe more to your liking?

Iwantscallops · 11/04/2011 13:44

How about Hamish?

Seamus is a great name.

Dilligaf81 · 11/04/2011 13:56

Arlo ? DS has a friend at school and it's really grown on me.

MelinaM · 11/04/2011 19:52

Grin I've just picked up on your Euan humour! ...in my defence I was half asleep!!!

I love french names, Aurelien, Edouard and Benoit are amongst my favouritesSmile

A few more Scottish names:
Alastair
Aulay
Broderick (Brodie)
Finlay
Logan
Rossiter
Tavin

mybootsaremuddy · 11/04/2011 20:04

I like Dominic from your list. Could u use Nic/k/y as a nn?

notanumber · 12/04/2011 11:24

How about Charles (Charlie)? That would fit with your French theme.

notanumber · 12/04/2011 11:26

Or Dillon?

Btw, I loved the Euan joke.

NorkilyChallenged · 13/04/2011 15:44

Thank you for appreciation of my joke Wink

We're still debating it, might have a few days off name discussions and come back to it.

I have to admit a secret hankering for a name that I know is historically universally disliked on MN.... I didn't dare put it on the original list and anyway DH says no but I have this thing about... Wyatt. Don't know why it's not my usual style but I do quite like it.

Thank you all for kind comments and opinions, it is helpful. Surprised how positive the reaction has been to Seamus, which is probably both of our 2nd favourite so might be the way forward?
