We have a short list of names we are quite excited about but none are really setting the heather alight except for Honey however we are not completely sure. It seemed to be quite a common name for celeb kids in the early 2000's (gail porter, jamie Oliver middle name) but can't decide I can't really find any info on t'internet so thought I'd put it out there & see what people think.

I think it's pretty, but it's the sort of name that is only right on a certain sort of adult.

If she might end up a sporty tomboy with a less than perfect figure, think again Grin

Hmmm... Imagining Honey looking around everytime someone nearby says 'hey hun ... ' and patiently saying 'yes, honey like the stuff you put on bread' every time she tells someone her name. And putting up with endless jokes about how sweet she is...

Having said that I do think it's quite nice sounding - just a little problematic.

I'd use it as a middle name. It's a bit of a liability for first name.

I once taught a little girl called Honey and it was pretty awkward to be honest. "Honey, don't do that," "What are you doing, Honey?" I just found a bit weird.
I personally would use it as a second name...

Thanks for all your feedback Its given us a bit to think about we have a daughter already with a floral name & she is very delicate & feminine i never thought about the possibility of a tomboy & also the Captain Darling from Blackadder factor u mentioned ie "come here darling" or "stop that darling" which of course is so likely to happen with Honey too. Also it never occurred to me how much of potential pet name for so many. Back to the drawing board maybe or go with our 2nd fave Kitty

Honey only for middle name for reasons already given.

Kitty is much better IMO, preferably nn for Katherine to give her options later in life, eg in her career, for a more 'grown up' name.

SolarPanel · 10/04/2011 20:02

I'd avoid Honey but are there other names on similar lines that you like?

Don't like Kitty I'm afraid, it's too nicknamey and a cat's name... but there are lots of people here who like it.

For me the name Honey screams 'future career in the adult entertainment industry'.

Can you imagine a Dr Honey or a Prime Minister Honey?

littlemd · 10/04/2011 22:09

I have always loved 'Mielle' (think I've spelled that right) which is Spanish for honey x

SlamThelambAndRockTheChoc · 10/04/2011 22:12

Kitty is lovely, Honey a nice middle name
