Teddy? Edan? Luke? Jack?

Just found out we're having a boy after the sonographer pointed out the "optional extras"! Was convinced it was a girl!

Teddy would be christened Edward to give him the choice of a more formal name (although I'm not madly keen on Edward). Could be Ted at school.

I like Edan as I'm half Irish but worry its too unisex. Too much room for teasing?

DP likes Luke......but its a bit wishy washy for me.

Jack has been my favourite for years but is so popular and passe perhaps.

Surname is Brooks.

Never heard Edan before - how is it pronounced? First thoughts are cheese not unisex.
Love Teddy for Edward. How about Edmund or Edwin?

AnnieDelores · 04/04/2011 16:08

Thanks SilkStalkings. Great name!

Edan pronounved "Ee-dun" ...similar to Eden with emphasis on the E. It's a version of the celtic Aidan....which just doesn't do it for me.

DP not keen on Edmund and Edwin is just a bit too old man like in my opinion.

I like Luke best from the list.

Domesticbodess · 04/04/2011 16:56

Luke and Jack great names, but think Edward is fab and goes well with your surname.

SolarPanel · 04/04/2011 17:16

I like Edward, but not Teddy I'm afraid. Edan reminds me of Edam cheese. I do like Luke, why do you find it "wish washy"? Jack is OK but very popular as you say - would you consider John with Jack as nickname, or Jacob/Jake?

Greenwing · 04/04/2011 22:10

Edward definitely!
Teddy is the name of my DS that never was! (Was going to be Edmund).
Please do use it - it's lovely.
Then you can use Ted when he is a older and you can't get away with such a cute name and he can choose to be Ed at secondary school age or as an adult if he prefers. Fab - give him and you lots of choice.

Ted is on my list if we have a boy, that and Sonny. We already have a Finlay and Tay, so think Sonny may go better with the other two, but i love love love Ted!

CharlieCoCo · 04/04/2011 23:27

i love eden for a girl but not too keen on edan for a boy im afraid (but also havent heard of it before so may just need time for it to absorb). however i do think it goes really well with your surname-edan brooks, it sounds lovely like that. luke brooks is a bit hard to say with the ks. same with jack-which is incidentally my favourite boy name and would usually recomend it. im not too keen on edward but would prob go for woody rather than teddy (but even then dont really like woody but teddy just reminds me of a bear). i prefer edwin out of the eds variety. but would then just call him edwin.

how about Eli Brooks?

CharlieCoCo · 04/04/2011 23:29

oh just seen ethan on another thread-ethan brooks?

pilates · 05/04/2011 10:59

Edward with nn Ted is really nice.

oooggs · 05/04/2011 11:08

I have a 'wishy washy' Luke and a 'popular and passe' Jack (which isn't popular here Finlay/Finley is!!) I also have a 'very common' James as well.

AnnieDelores · 05/04/2011 21:48

Apologies Ooogs - didn't mean to offend. I like Luke but with such a simple surname like Brooks it just doesn't see to work / sound right. Jack has always been by favourite name but I'm battling with its popularity, albeit for a good reason......good names will be popular.

DP says no to Eli and Edwin and Edgar, but thanks anyway CharleCoCo and TheSecondComing.

I do really like Ethan but struggling to convince DP who favours simple, traditional masculine names.....the ones our son's future football / rugby playing mates won't raise eyebrows about! Personally, I think Ethan fits the bill nicely.......but like Teddy and Jack too.

no not offended at all Grin not all names suit all children and not all names are popular in all places.

we had totally decided against Jack (already had a 'J' name, too popular, name of friends son) but when twin 2 was a boy we were stumped.

To top it all his twin sister has a much more popular name down here and when we named her we didn't realise!!!

FlamingJamie · 06/04/2011 12:59

I'd go Evan rather than Edan (Edan/Edam confusion)

FlamingJamie · 06/04/2011 13:01

Jack's not all that prevalent in my neck of the woods - great name

FlamingJamie · 06/04/2011 13:02

What about Patrick - good, solid, Irish ish

jellybeans · 06/04/2011 13:50

Teddy..dislike but like just Ted. I always find t anit odd when there is a different initial on a nn eg Ted/Edward
Edan...dislike, abit weird/made up sounding
Luke..great name
Jack...I like it but it is far too popular

Emelene · 06/04/2011 21:08

I love Edward and nicknamed Teddy. Could also be Eddy / Eddie later.

I think of Edan as too much like Eden, which for me is a girls name.

Luke is OK. Maybe Lucas?

Jack's great but super common at the moment.

Northernrose · 06/04/2011 21:19

I love Teddy - but prefer it as a nn for Theodore rather than Edward tbh...
Theo Brooks sounds good too. Also like Jack, I don't know that many despite moving in baby/toddler circles, despite it being so high on the charts...
As above Edan too like Eden which for me is a girl's name
Luke and Ethan are both good with surname too..

sorry not much help!!

CPtart · 06/04/2011 21:24

I have a Luke. A good strong classic name that won't date and isn't readily shortened.
I do like Edward too!

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 06/04/2011 22:14

Love Edward/Teddy
Love Luke

Don't have any opinion on Jack and don't like Edan at all.

changer22 · 07/04/2011 10:19

Teddy.

The Lukes I know are all 'Lukey'!

katydix · 07/04/2011 17:17

Edward - love it!
And gives you (and him) so many options. Teddy is gorgeous for a little one, Ted is great for school / teenager and a man and Edward is sophisticated and grown up for a successful business man!!!
If I was having a boy, he would def be Teddy!

katydix · 07/04/2011 17:18

Oh and Ed, Eddie, Woody - so many options from one name!
