Alternatives to Oscar and / or Alfie please!

Jumping the gun massively here as only just started TTCing, but DH is stuck on the idea of Alfie and I am (or was) very keen on Oscar for a boy - both of which are VERY popular. Am struggling to think of an alternative for this, currently, fictitious baby so thought I'd ask the masses for any alternative suggestions (which are neither overly popular or so obscure they sound made up.)

euw... not keen I'm afraid. Think I have known too many geeky or weird Edwards. Thank you though!
I think classic but not overused (like, erm, Edward) but just not sure. Know it's stupidly early blah blah blah but have girls name in stone and think it may take a looong time to steer DH away from Alfie!

Max

Oooh, cross posted I think. I like Otto I think (had half bottle of wine so need to think when fully sober, obviously!) Know too many dogs called Leo (otherwise would like it!)

Three friends have a little boy called Max, and know several dogs called Max - but thanks all the same!

Keep em coming!

Herbert. God if I had another I swear he would be this. Herbie

no?

qwerty123 · 02/04/2011 23:51

Felix

confusedforever · 02/04/2011 23:52

er, sorry, no (re Herbie)

Arthur too much of an old mans name for me. Know Alfred / Alfie is too (DH's choice) but cannot think of a good abbreviation for Arthur either.

Henry

confusedforever · 02/04/2011 23:54

Before I carry on, I don't mean to offend with my reactions to suggestions, different names meaning different things to people etc etc.

Felix - reminds me of cat food.

Okay, can't think of names but don't do oscar or alfie, without wanting to offend anyone with DSs of that name, but so many Of both....

Do you like 'Arlo'?

confusedforever · 02/04/2011 23:55

DH's son from a previous has another son called Henry, it did cross my mind though (but might be as popular as Oscar or Alfie...)

Dylan
Felix
Isaac
Elliot
Charles/Charlie
Luke
George
Milo

Charlie

confusedforever · 02/04/2011 23:57

Ooooh, I think I do like Arlo, yes! I agree there are too many Oscars / Alfie's (hence the thread even though they are lovely names.) Arlo - hmmmmm (dons thinking cap)

So far I am keen on either Arol or Otto (but also a bit pissed...)

Marcus

confusedforever · 02/04/2011 23:59

Really like Dylan but isn't that uber popular too....? Also like Charlie (but also know lots of dogs of that name, but not as many dogs I know who are called Milo!) Same for Isaac.
I am quite flexible with names but DH is not!
DH's son is George so can't have that (but like it)

Have wondered about Marcus too but DH's brother called Mark and not sure he'd go for it. Think we have an 'informal arrangement' where I choose the DD name and he chooses the DS one but hoping to influence him sneakily in a subtle way.

the name Otis I can only associate with a black man (rather than a white baby) - I don't mean that offensively!
