Aurelia and Amelie. Can you tell I have just read the "A" section of a baby name book?! What do you think of them?

I love Aurelia. I also think it's not going to go intergallactically popular, so you wont walk into nursery in 4 years time to find she's the fourth in her class.

I find Amelie a bit boring now. It was fab when that film came out ... ten years ago.

mylovelymonster · 31/03/2011 22:55

I have a grown-up male cousin called Aurelius (not English) and I've always thought it was really heroic and kind of ancient mysteriousness...
Know LOADS of Amelies.

reddaisy · 31/03/2011 23:06

I love Aurelia and I was thinking I had possibly found the right name until I mentioned it at work and my friend said, "nah, it reminds me of areola." I am trying to figure out if that has put me off. Sad

And I'm surprised you know loads of Amelies, I don't know any. I know Amelia is very popular.

yes but Amelie is the new Amelia

reddaisy · 31/03/2011 23:14

Hmm, well I guess it is always best to pick a name you love then rather than weighing up the popularity etc too much. My other concern with Amelie is that I think it is very pretty but maybe a bit wishy washy.

I think Red has something there. Amelie has been SO popular since the film.
Get past the A's and come back when you've found some alternatives Grin

(Ultimately, though, you get to pick the name you like. You know that, don't you Wink)

Underachieving · 31/03/2011 23:28

Look you're not suggesting Frogmella or Gertrude. In perspective Amelie is wearable, your child wont be suing for a parental-divorce over it I am sure.

(Aurelia is still better though Grin)

reddaisy · 31/03/2011 23:31

No doubt I will get to Frogmella when I get to the "Fs" Underachieving. Wink

I normally don't mention possible names in RL precisely because I don't want to hear others opinions until the decision is made. Mumsnet doesn't count obviously.

I know two Amelies - both under two - it's going stellar.....

pilates · 01/04/2011 09:59

Both really nice names.

randomimposter · 01/04/2011 10:05

Love Aurelia
Amelie is, I agree with others, a bit meh now.
Emilia is much nicer IMHO. but you're not at E yet.... Wink

Youremindmeofthebabe · 01/04/2011 10:11

I like them both. But Aurelia does make me think a bit medical-terminologyConfused

I like Aurelie better than either. Amelie is pretty but seems overused and unoriginal now, unfortunately. Something about the 'lia' ending never sits well with me, I don't like Amelia, Aurelia, but I can't really place why. Maybe it's because Aurelie doesn't sound as 'fluffy' feminine since it doesnt end in an 'a'.

Perpetuallypregnant · 01/04/2011 20:35

Pretty but make me think of 'orally'.

Perpetuallypregnant · 01/04/2011 20:36

Ignore that - read wrong thought you suggested Aurelie :)

Both pretty.

BornAgainDomesticGoddess · 02/04/2011 12:36

Aurelia reminds me of the coloured area surrounding your nipples.

Hulababy · 02/04/2011 12:41

I like both

ragged · 02/04/2011 13:37

tongue twisters -- sorry, I didn't grow up hearing either and I find them hard to say. Might seem trivial concern, but DC had speech delay, and it's quite frustrating when your 4-5yo child can't even say his own name correctly. You never know when your kid might be the one who can't even say her own name.
