I have a question about naming same sex twins

How do you decide which is which? Do you look at them and think oh, that one's definitely an Alexander and the other one's more of an Edward? Or do you just sort of randomly assign a name to each?

What if they're identical?

I realise this is a very random question, but for some reason it's been bothering me for weeks.

Identical twins don't necessarily look identical when they are born, they are often different weights and are squashed in different waysGrin

My friend didn't realise her twins were identical until they were more then a year old. Now they are five and look very identical.

I named my twin boys so that the first baby out got the name lower down the alphabet eg Scott, and the second baby the name nearer the top of the alphabet eg Alexander. This way the younger one appears earlier on school registers etc? A bit crazy but there is a little logic behind it. Like you I wasn't sure how I would decide which boy would get what name.

a friend if mine had named them in the womb - the first one out was going to be Joe, the second, Bob (or whatever)
However, when they were born by section the one who should have been born second was pulled out first (nearer the top I guess? Grin) and she was really perturbed by which names they should have!!

IBibbering, that is what my friend with identical girls did. It has saved some argument, not all obviously, but some.

I look after twins, apparently the older brother chose which one was called which.

A friend of mine had decided on the names before they were born. First one out to be called Finley then second one Max. The problem was that Finley was much heavier and stockier than Max and everyone kept getting their names mixed up for a very long time because the name Max suited the heavier boy and Finley suited the smaller boy.

Main thing is not to give the firstborn a name that comes earlier in the alphabet or the 2nd born will always be mentioned 2nd.

I've always wanted twin girls called Wren and Linnet.

I name them in my belly, twin 1 was such and such and same for twin 2. ballsed up this time though as twin 1 is E and twin 2 is O but they have swopped places now so left twin is E, right twin O. just got to know who they take out first lol

We chose a name each from our own family trees and twin 1 got my family name and twin 2 got dh's family name. Turned out very well as twin 1 now looks very like me and twin 2 looks like dh. Wink

I'm in the same position as Tommy's friend - I'm a female twin and would have been the oldest if it had been a natural birth, but as it was a C-section and my sister was in the way, they took her out before me. I like to complain that if we'd been royalty it could have changed history as then she'd be first in line... but as we're not, it's not a big deal!

Her name was "the first girl's name" and mine was the second (that my Dad had to wait for my Mum to come round to check since he'd forgotten it.)

We just decided that the first one out would be ...... and the second...... We never named them in the womb, I could never tell which was which as placenta was in the way of kicks etc. It's weird that if i had had a c section, they would have had the opposite names (since the top one would then be out first!)
