Elise - is it "chavvy"?

I've wanted to call any future daughter Elise since I was an early teenager.

About 10 years back there was an influx of people calling their girls Elise thanks to Lotus cars, and it became a 'chav' thing.

I just wondered if it is still considered chavvy? I still love the name and though I don't know what flavour my baby is yet, if it's a girl I'd like Elise to still be on the table for consideration.

What is the general opinion of the name Elise? Thanks :)

oh, I thought you said Elsie.

I'm not so keen on elise.

lilaloves · 23/03/2011 20:36

Maybe depends on where you live.
I know two little girls called Elise, siblings of Shannon and Summer,Paige and Ashley.

If you have always loved it,use it.You might wish you had just gone with it if you dont.

Any name can be "chavvy". I know a chavvy Elise but also a non chavvy one. Names can swing both ways.

I think it's pretty. I also like Elodie, Eloise and Elora, which have a similar-ish feel.

Hmm Liesl is very lovely, but I don't have the time now to follow her up with a Friedrich, Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta and Gretl :/

BIG SoM fan here :o

I think Elise is nice. It makes me think of Emily Blunt in The Adjustment Bureau, who is beautiful. That was her character's name btw.

Dear me, you are prestigiously patronising Grin I however am just plain cheap.

DS1 is desperate to call my current bump Elise. In his case because my DB owns a Lotus garage. I like it as a name, but DH doesn't.

I wouldn't say it is chavvy.

oohlaalaa · 24/03/2011 15:37

No. I love the name Elise. I recently saw The Tourist, and Angelina played the character Elise Clifton-Ward.

ValiumSingleton · 24/03/2011 15:39

Some people might think this was chav too, but I was reading a book by Paullina Simons (road trip, it was very good) and there was a character in it named Shelby after a Shelby mustang. It suits an adult more than a baby though.

I have heard "Come 'ere Eleeeeeeeeezzzzzz" being screeched down a supermarket aisle. It's a little 'princessy'. I imagine she has a tv in her room despite only being five and has regular tantrums.

weimy · 24/03/2011 19:30

ooh I know an emma just like that!!!!

CharlieBoo · 24/03/2011 20:36

Downmarket is a word that seems to have sudenly popped up on this board...I have heard it so much lately on here. I just find it offensive and rude.

cloudydays · 24/03/2011 20:44

I love the name, and I love "Letter to Elise" - it was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the thread title, and I think I will have to go dig out the CD now and put it on :)

Bettyspencer · 24/03/2011 20:50

Not at all, it's pretty.

Mum2Pea · 25/03/2011 09:04

I really like it and dont think its chavvy at all!

JoinTheDots · 25/03/2011 09:19

It's my DDs middle name, I chose it from the song "perfect day Elise" by PJ Harvey. Obviously I love it and don't think it is either downmarket or chavvy. I don't know any other children with the name to associate it with a type of child or mother though.
