I love the name Bella...always wanted to use it if i ever had a girl. However my in-laws have a daughter called Ella. We see them at family get togethers every few weeks..is it weird to have the name Bella still if i have a girl this time?

It's fine.

flopsy1974 · 22/03/2011 12:10

Bella and Ella are totally different names. I can't see a problem.

Hedwig3 · 22/03/2011 13:22

No problem at all.

Bettyspencer · 22/03/2011 14:56

No prob for cousins, might be a bit too similar for sisters!

What Rasputin said. They are v similar, so I would go for a longer version of Bella (Isabella, Arabella, Mirabel) and use it as an nn.

BelligerentGhoul · 22/03/2011 17:45

I'm going to go against the grain and say I think it's a bit silly tbh. How about Isobel/Belle instead?

Rhubarbgarden · 22/03/2011 19:10

Depends if the parents are the sort to be funny about something like that.

Makingaminime · 22/03/2011 19:32

No I think it's ok. And its your child, you have to use the name every day so if its the one you love you should just use it. Not like it's siblings living together. The cousins will probably love having a similar name anyway!

WorkInProgress · 22/03/2011 20:09

My brother called his daughter something very similar to my daughter, and to be honest I was a bit annoyed. Mainly because the grandparents get the grandchildren mixed up at the best of times, and it's annoying to have your daughter called the wrong name all the time. I would avoid if you can, or at least ask them if it's OK.

LargeGlassOfRedPlease · 22/03/2011 20:15

I think its a bit strange when you have a million to choose from. At family get to gthers it will just sound odd and everyone will get confused unless everyone says their names ultra-clearly!

Skinit · 22/03/2011 20:17

No....it's fine. You love the name...you should use it. I used a name for my DD which my sis had used as her DDs middle name. No family connection...she didn't care. And my DD and all my niceces are named after flowers! People think they're siblings and I am their Mum when I take thm all out.

I'm like this Hmm Yes...because I WANTED a garden of girls! Grin

Whelk · 22/03/2011 21:13

A similar thing has happened to us (I have the older dd) and tbh although I'm not exactly upset I do think it's a bit odd and a a bit irritated.

I feel as though I'm going to spend the rest of my life poitning out that MY dd is older as together they sound like a double-act!

BetamaxBandit · 22/03/2011 21:22

No. My brother and my cousin both have the same name. No one was bothered.

Wafflenose · 22/03/2011 21:56

My cousin (who is younger than me!) has a similar name. Our grandparents did always get us confused, but the name thing never bothered us. It only bothered my sister, whose name is very different, as she didn't get mentioned in the confusion!!

Mum2Pea · 23/03/2011 08:54

Dont see anything wrong with it, the names are not too similar, think you should go for it
especially as the 2 of them are differant generations,
