What do you think of Beth as a girl's name? I quite like it but am not normally keen on names that are too girlie and am not sure if it is a bit too 'pretty'? Other names we are considering are Megan, Lola or Alexandra (shortened to Alex) What do you think?

Beautiful name. DD's middle name is Elizabeth.

meditrina · 20/03/2011 11:55

I like it a lot as a nn for Elizabeth. It would also work as nn for Bethany.

And in the Percy Jackson books, the main female character is Annabeth, and that's growing on me.

Emelene · 20/03/2011 12:02

I absolutely love the name Beth! Personally I'd go for Elizabeth and nickname Beth. :)

HighPriestessBoo · 20/03/2011 12:03

All the best people are called Beth Wink

blueberrymoon · 20/03/2011 12:03

^ Ditto :)

CorrieQueen · 20/03/2011 12:04

Gorgeous. My all time favourite girl's name. If we ever have a DD is will be used!!!

EllenJane1 · 20/03/2011 12:37

Lovely, strong as well as pretty. Don't like Lola, too 'showgirl.'

PepsiPopcorn · 20/03/2011 13:14

Very nice. Also like Megan and Alexandra/Alex.

UndiscoveredApprentice · 20/03/2011 13:17

I love Beth, but wanted a full first name, and didn't like any full versions of Beth, so I gave Beth as a middle name, and still love it today 14 years later.

TysonNobdie86 · 20/03/2011 13:26

I personally like Bethany, with Beth as nn.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 20/03/2011 13:28

I really like Beth- nearly called dd2 that!

thislittlesisterlola · 20/03/2011 14:20

I like Beth, I think it works as a stand alone name too imo.

MrClaypole · 20/03/2011 14:35

Sorry, don't like it. But only because all the Beths I know are twee, girly and a bit drippy.

But I'm clearly in the minority so go for it!

Love it, love Megan too. Just make sure no one in your family says "Beff"--that would drive me mad.

peeriebear · 20/03/2011 15:39

My friend has been Beth from birth (full name Elizabeth). She is fierce and scary with a marshmallowy interior. It is a good name :)
And so is Lola! Lola is a fabulous name. :o

MsInterpret · 20/03/2011 15:40

Really like it

spidookly · 20/03/2011 15:41

Love it :)

fluffles · 20/03/2011 15:43

i like beth, don't see it as girly at all - i think it's quite strong and old fashioned but in a solid, good way.

baskingseals · 20/03/2011 15:45

don't really like it sorry

but do really like Elizabeth and Alexandra

fluffles · 20/03/2011 15:45

letsblowthistacostand has a VERY good point. i would NOT use Beth in a region where people use ff instead of th..

i am scottish and nobody here drops their th so it's fine.

[totally unrelated aside, i have noticed here ater living in london that people with a genuine speach impediment who can't say th up here tend to say sh instead rather than ff so three becomes shree rather than free.. but only people with an actual impediment do this, it's not common]

thegauntlet · 20/03/2011 16:12

my dh has a ff instead of th problem, beth was his fave name for DD- I managed to get him off it for this reason! ( went for FIONA instead) but still really love Beth. Maybe I will get DH to let me get braces on him before next one! ( im a dentist btw- and his prob is tooth related!)

CharlieBoo · 20/03/2011 16:19

Beth is gorgeous as a nn for Elizabeth...

Not keen on Lola at all and Alex is not pretty enough IMO

said · 20/03/2011 18:07

Think it's a bit drippy. It's my least favourite nn for Elizabeth, which is a great name

smother · 20/03/2011 21:11

Beth is absolutely gorgeous, love love love it! And love Bethan for full version.
