Please rank these three names in order of most feminine to least feminine, and also let me know which your favorite is.

Chav chav and tree hugger. Sorry

lazygaze · 19/03/2011 21:36

Just out of interest, are you American? You spelt favourite without the 'u', and these names sound like American names.. unfortunately a lot of popular American names sound chavvy to us for some reason..

kiwidreamer · 19/03/2011 21:47

Is it the football thing that make people think Chelsea is chavvy??? In NZ its a perfectly nice name but it doesnt have the London borough / Football connotations it does here.

I agree if you like 'Kailee' please spell it 'Kayleigh' or do you mean to pronounce it more like 'Kylie'? Kai would be pronounced like Ky in Kylie where I'm from.

I still dont see Autumn as a real name personally.

sparkle12mar08 · 19/03/2011 21:50

Of a very, very, very bad bunch, Autumn is the least offensive...

EllenJane1 · 19/03/2011 22:12

Place names are chavvy, as are surnames as first names, like Taylor or Harrison.

ValiumSingleton · 19/03/2011 22:45

Autumn is the least awful by far. I don't like the sound Autumn but I think as a name it's the best from your choices. I like what Autumn conjures up more than the sound itself.

Kailee is not going to be received well on mumsnet. But what about Michaela with nn Kaylee? (IF you must use Kailee, I think Michaela has a bit more longevity about it).

Chelsea - I like the sound of this, but it's quite dated.

serin · 19/03/2011 23:18

I quite like Autumn and predict it to become much more popular over the next couple of years.

I know of two both under the age of 4.

Tryharder · 19/03/2011 23:26

Kayleigh is sort of beautiful - it reminds me of the Marillion song (OMG, was it Marillion, someone correct me if I am wrong) but TBH, as others have said, it's been overused and chavified as has Chelsea which 30 years ago was rare and unusual.

I prefer them both to Autumn which is a season and not a name Smile

QueeferSutherland · 19/03/2011 23:33

You lot are horrible sometimes.

OP asked how feminine the names are, not what socio-economic group they belonged to.

They are all girls names, so feminine.
Chelsea is a football team, so the least so.

CouldNeverHave3 · 19/03/2011 23:40

omg - all bad, sorry. Autumn is best but still horrific!

I think this is a wind up

Greenwing · 19/03/2011 23:41

Autumn is a bit feminine sounding - a very little bit.

Kailee sounds hard and ugly (and invented)

Chelsea is a football club - definitely not feminine at all.

thumbwitch · 19/03/2011 23:41

Same as everyone else. Autumn ok if you have to, others = no. Just No.

katefirsttimer · 19/03/2011 23:47

shes not asking if you like them or not, if you cant say anything supportive dont bother upsetting hormonal woman !!
Autumn is the most fem hun xx

Vicky2011 · 19/03/2011 23:47

they're all feminine names though tbh I don't like any of them. Autumn the best of the three I would say but would honestly think a nice Emma, Catherine, Beth or (if you want more modern) Amber, Evie or Isla would be better. That said, I'm quite happy to be told I'm boring :o

pfishofplight · 20/03/2011 00:08

None of them are my idea of feminine names.

LadyWellian · 20/03/2011 00:23

I don't think Kayleigh existed as a name until the Marillion song. As far as I can remember, it was actually about a woman called Kay. Then there was a rash of Kayleighs whose parents, presumably, thought of that as 'their song'.

I second that 'Kailee' is just a collection of letters.

Chelsea is half of a London Borough (few of whose residents would choose it as a name, I'd hazard) and Autumn is a season.

None of which have any inherent femininity.

I don't think Autumn is awful but I wouldn't use it myself.

LadyWellian · 20/03/2011 00:25

Grin perhaps Awful Autumn could be a new schoolfriend in the Horrid Henry franchise, though!

Clary · 20/03/2011 00:31

Actually she did ask people to say which is their favourite!

I don't really understand "feminine" but I suppose names like Emily, Arabella, Eleanor would fit that.

On that basis Chelsea and Autumn are more neuter sounding (a football club and a season). Kailee is a very odd spelling which is asking for trouble IMO/IME.

I don't like any of them so can't pick a fave, sorry.

QueeferSutherland · 20/03/2011 12:10

You're right, clary.

In that case, Autumn is my fave (as long as child born in autumn; I know of a Summer born on xmas dayHmm), the others are gopping. Kayleeeee isn't even spelt right.

rachel234 · 20/03/2011 15:13

Chelsea reminds me of Chelsea Clinton and Prince Harry's girlfriend.

I'm not keen on Autumn and Kayleee is ok.

niceday · 21/03/2011 09:16

Will Chelsea have a brother Kensington?

witches · 21/03/2011 21:22

I like Autumn. I also agree will get more popular in near future. I come for a nosy on name threads and people's charming reaction is exactly why i'm not telling anyone my names before the birth! Sometimes it doesn't occur to people who have children that I would never say 'gee what a hideous name its chavvy/old fashioned' that their child already has but its ok for them to say it to pregnant women! Hmm

CharlyH · 29/03/2011 09:06

I think Autumn is a lovely name (and I don't live in a yurt!)

tigermummy35 · 29/03/2011 12:10

Really? I don't like any of them much at all, but Autumn is the least bad. I actually know a woman called Autumn and a Kayleigh too. But agree they are a bit too chavvy.
