Thanks!

Tessa? (That's not a nn in itself, is it?)

Aydeen · 18/03/2011 22:41

No don't like that either :(

I like Esther. Is Tess traditionally a NN for it?

How about Contessa, apparently it's Italian

I think Theresa is the only traditional name for nn Tess, so anything else is gonna be a stretch. Your best bet is to just take something ending -ess or -iss sound and MAKE it work.
Names like Beatrice or Alexis, although they already have strong traditional nns.

I've tried looking for one in the past myself, as I love Tessa, but I can't find anything either =/

Underachieving · 19/03/2011 16:16

I know a Tess who is a Philippa. Nicknames don't have to derive from the first name.

Tuschinski · 19/03/2011 16:44

I think only Theresa, if you don't like it I'd just call the baby Tess, I think it's acceptable as a name on it's own.

ellangirl · 19/03/2011 17:22

Hester?

flipfloppop · 19/03/2011 17:32

If you like Tess, why not just call her Tess?

Ooopsadaisy · 19/03/2011 17:38

I think Tessa is a lovely name - I would say it is from Teresa.

I have a friend called Tess and her brothers have always called her Testicle.

Don't let that put you off though - they are just lovable rogues who like to wind their little sis up.

luckoftheirish · 20/03/2011 07:21

my dd2 is called Tess and i love the name {smile].. we also call her tessie as she is only 2 1/2 and she calls herself that atm Smile

PurveyorOfWoo · 20/03/2011 07:22

blueberrymuffins · 20/03/2011 09:01

emeraldislander · 21/03/2011 17:31

I know a 'just' Tess.

PlinkyPonk · 21/03/2011 19:09

My SIL is Anastasia we call her Tess.

SilverScarf · 21/03/2011 20:23

Just Tessa/Tess is nice. I think the others (Esther etc) just sound a bit forced, it's not a natural n/n for them.

PepsiPopcorn · 21/03/2011 21:21

Only short for Teresa/Theresa IMO. Agree anything else would be a bit forced.

QueeferSutherland · 21/03/2011 21:46

I love Tess too, but don't like Teresa/Tessa.

I do like a longer name though for when the child is badly behaved grows up.

myredcardigan · 21/03/2011 23:30

I've heard it for Esther and Elizabeth.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 22/03/2011 17:55

I have a Tessa. We deliberated long and hard over it because we loved the name, didn't like Teresa, but weren't sure about using the shortened form. Anyway, we went for Tessa and have no regrets, I think it stands as a name in it's own right. And as others have said, anything other than Teresa is a bit forced, and I think the Tess shortening would end up getting dropped.

SunSoakedStone · 22/03/2011 20:33

Tessara- it's Latin I think, means something like 'four' or 'fourth'.

longislandicetea · 22/03/2011 20:39

lol Nice one oopsadaisy, am sure she won't be put off calling her baby Tess when it can encourage such a charming nick name.....testicle !!! Grin
