Two middle names....

DH is insisting on DD having two middle names. Despite the fact we haven't picked any yet, he just in principle likes the four name thing.

I let him have his way with DS, but for DD, I really don't want four names.

He is prob going to go with the first name I love (Camille/Camilla) (but he must like it too....) and so will use that to say he should get his way with middle names.

But I think its too many. Is anyone else considering 4??

Yes, I think 4 names in total is lovely, the 2 middle names 'rounds off' the whole name I think.

Personal opinion of course!

flipfloppop · 18/03/2011 21:23

I had 2
for DS just to keep DH happy and even then I was missing out the one I wanted!! What a mug hey!

2 middle names is fine, just make sure they're not really long. Loving Camille/Camilla!

Underachieving · 19/03/2011 16:15

My first daughter has 4, my second has 3 and I think it is likely that I will stick to 3 hereafter. It just seems unneccesarily long and flouncy to me having 3. My partner has 2 older sons and they don't have the same number of names either. I can't see it being a problem. I think naming children so that their names go with thier siblings is a bit like trying for a matching set, although I realise the rest of mumsnet doesn't agree.

Just wanted to say I love camilla, with 'milla' for a nn! my ds has 2 middle names, more than that might be silly though!

NickiAndAlex · 19/03/2011 21:55

My Dad has 3 middle names (though he mostly uses 1 of them), my brothers have 2 middle names, I don't see why it's a problem.

I have two middle names, nothing wrong with it at all, have as many as you like! x

DH and DS1 have 2 middle names (DH very proud of his!). DS1's names trip off the tongue reasonably well. I always thought DS2 would have 2 middle names too but now I'm not so sure - what we are considering sounds very cumbersome.

What changed my mind is a friend had an 'Emily Rose' and (although obviously having a boy) I thought how pretty and neat the name sounds with one simple middle name.

My aunty is STILL miffed that she has no middle name and her 3 older siblings all have. So I am hoping that none vs one is completely different to one vs two!

All of mine have 2 middle names, 1 from DHs family & 1 from my family. It works well ,I think. And hopefully doesn't sound too pretentious!

Georgimama · 20/03/2011 09:21

DS has 2 middle names, I just couldn't choose between them and they sound lovely together.

If there are 2 middle names your husband likes, why not have them both? I don't understand why this is an issue. On the other hand casting about for an extra middle name when none spring to mind is a bit silly if it's done just because your other child has 2.

greenzebra · 20/03/2011 20:43

I have two middle names so does my brother and I am planning on giving my little one when its born in may two middle names aswell.
I think if your other child already has two middle names then you should treat all your kids that way so they will not feel left out.

Mine all have two middle names but, in each case, the second one is a family name. 2 DDs each have a female christian name from my family and DS has paternal Grandmother's maiden name as she was from a family of girls. It works as a christian name too, happily.

smashingtime · 20/03/2011 21:52

Both my kids have 2 middle names. Yes, slightly cumbersome as they are long names but we wanted to remember certain family members in their names so was important to us! The kids seem to like them and often call eachother by their full names for effect Smile

freshmint · 20/03/2011 21:54

all four of mine have four
I was cursing our decision by the time of baby number three, but I was determined that they all had the same number. My brother had 2 middles to my 1 and I thought that was EXTREMELY unfair all through my childhood!

You've got to give her the same as him IMO. Sorry Grin

NickiAndAlex · 20/03/2011 22:42

My brothers had 2 middle names each, my sisters and I had 1 each, I didn't mind that at all, freshmint. In our case, the extra middle name was a family name, like a second surname (though not double barrelled), I was glad enough not to have it. It might have been different if it was extra "christian" names.
