What do you think of Camelia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

I know its not one of the more common flower names, but I could still use it, right?

Does it sounds more or less like camel than Camille?

Our surname is Thomas - can you see any nasty nns there....?

I really like it.

BuntyPenfold · 16/03/2011 17:16

I never thought of a camel until you said it.
Now I do.

greenzebra · 16/03/2011 17:28

beautiful name and beautiful flower. Cause you can use it.

mopsyflopsy · 16/03/2011 17:34

Of course you can use Camelia - it is lovely. And much less overused than Lily or Rose.

meditrina · 16/03/2011 18:19

My first thought was of La Dame Aux Camelias, and the floral menstrual indicators. Then of posh horticulturalists who point out the flower was discovered by a M Camel, and is correctly pronounced cam-mel-ia. But them aside, it then looks like a changed Amelia.

It ought to work as a name, but it doesn't quite do it for me. Sorry.

PepsiPopcorn · 16/03/2011 19:10

Lovely name. The flower is usually spelled with a double l, so that's the spelling I'd use - Camellia.

Rhubarbgarden · 16/03/2011 19:59

Yes I agree with Pepsipopcorn - it looks wrong with a single L.

You'd have to contend with people constantly thinking it was Camilla, which isn't as nice.

PorkChopSter · 16/03/2011 20:00

I would expect a lot of (auto) correcting to Camilla.

PigValentine · 16/03/2011 20:13

I prefer Camille, and it would be subject to less mistakes, I think.

deliakate · 16/03/2011 20:16

Oooh, a variation on that theme and I think we are ready!!!

ValiumSingleton · 16/03/2011 20:42

I really like it. It's not cameeelia though is it? it's camELLia.

very nice. It's not that confusing is it? there's a flower called camellia.

PepsiPopcorn · 16/03/2011 20:45

I've only heard the flower pronounced Cam-EE-lee-uh.
