Not my cup of tea TBH...my first thought was point percy at the porcelain Grin

ChunkyPickle · 13/03/2011 23:23

I think that it has possibly a bit too much comedy potential, it's one of those names which brings cartoon characters and thomas the tank engine to mind (Percy Penguin, Percy the little engine etc.)

slartybartfast · 13/03/2011 23:25

thrower?

park keeper?

TakeItOnTheChins · 13/03/2011 23:29

Well it depends really.

If you're "rairly, rairly" posh, and have a hice with 234 bedrooms, and plan to send your son to Eton, and mix with people who have children called Tarquin and Jacinta and who say "ears" instead of "yes", then go ahead. Little Percy will fit in beautifully.

If however you are a normal person who plans to mix with normal people/children, then calling the poor little sod Percy is condemning him to a lifetime of misery and having his head flushed down the toilet.

HTH.

bananamom · 13/03/2011 23:34

Pmsl, love the HTH at the end of your message.

The thing is, going by the sorts of names people are using these days, his peers will be Hunter, Hector, Monty, Milo, Chester, Dexter etc. Would he really stand out??

Personally, I love it. But that's because it was the name of my very dear cat. Hope that doesn't put you off. I was still tempted but DH put his foot down.

AyeRobot · 14/03/2011 00:31

I think your husband is probably taking the piss.

MsScarlettInTheLibrary · 14/03/2011 00:34

Percy at the porcelain?

It was point Percy at the Portaloo round here.

randommoment · 14/03/2011 00:39

The only Percy I've ever known was the cowman on my grandfather's farm. To be fair, he'd won the George Cross for things he did in WW2. However, the only name I can think of that's even more awful is Algernon.

B52s · 14/03/2011 12:59

Might as well call him Winkie. Sorry

winkle2 · 14/03/2011 13:52

Percy Pigs

alexaj · 14/03/2011 19:35

Dislike. Love TakeItOnTheChins post.

sillybillymummy · 14/03/2011 19:39

One of the twins on Harry Potter, i LOVE it! But then i love all the thomas the tanks names...
Only got a Henry so far though!

Don't think you should care what anyone else thinks, if you REALLY like it.

But then i like 'Rupert' , which i do think Takeitonthechin's post probably applies to aswell!

myalias · 14/03/2011 19:39

My friend's mum used to call her husband Percy Filth when he was being rude. Great for comedy valueGrin

alexaj · 14/03/2011 19:55

Percy isn't one of the twins, sillbillymummy! The twins are Fred and George. He's the older brother.

theanimalswentintwobytwo · 14/03/2011 20:25

My great grandad was a percy. But he always used his middle name. So you could always give his a more common middle name so you can choose later in his life? just a thought

CointreauVersial · 14/03/2011 20:28

My immediate thought was "point percy at the porcelain" too.

But you're right, no more ridiculous than most of the names flying about at the moment.

bemybebe · 14/03/2011 20:34

i think there was a thread recently about this name
i do not like it. you can blame lord percy from from blackadder

Florin · 14/03/2011 20:46

I love it but as another poster said I really love Rupert and they are the same type of name.

Onion1968 · 14/03/2011 21:38

It's awful and Takeitonthechins post was genius!
