Ive always loved the forsyte saga and have a soft spot for the name Jolyon is it just too odd what do you think?

I quite like it (though I do very strongly associate it with the Forsythe Saga). He could always be Jon for short if he wants a more normal name.

I know a Jolyon and he's lovely. People always say it's a bit posh on here but I do like it.

How is it pronounced? Is it the same as Julian, or is it definitely Jolly at the start?

I know a gorgeous Jolyon, he is just the cutest 2 year old in the world and because of him I think the name is fab.

Just sounds like a silly way of saying Julian to me then.

Yes like Joeliun. It's a variant of Julian but perfectly acceptable name in its own right. Like Julius which is also a variant form.

Most names have variant forms like er Hannah/Anna/Hannelore/Chana/Nan/Ann etc.

The jolyon i know pronounces it more like jolly not joe ly. He hates it and is always joe. His children have very plain names. He is from very posh background.

But google does reveal that some people pronounce it JOLL YUN or JOLLY UN.

I know a Jolyon who uses Joe for short. He pronounced his name Joe-Le-Un and it sounds a bit like Julian said with a heavy Birmingham accent (although neither he nor have one). He is the opposite of posh:- Council house, criminal record, bull mastiff.

I love the name & it's on my mythical DC3 list. But according to many I'm not to be trusted when it cones to boy's names. My other two favs are Bede and Eli...
