Why won't DH obsess about names too?

OK, I know the answer and I may be a BIT hormonal, but I really feel the need to try names out before I commit and DH just isn't interested in talking about names at all. He's happy to leave it until a couple of weeks before the birth and then just pick one.

GRRR.

Rant over. Thanks for listening.

Yep, was the same here. My sympathies.

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 21:19

Mine wont play either. PM me all your name suggestions endlessly, this game NEVER ages with me. Grin You can vet mine too if you like. I'm all up for input.

MrsBloomingTroll · 09/03/2011 21:20

My DH was the same last time and is the same this time.

Last time he was convinced we were having a boy and we decided that quite early on, so he thought "job done". Luckily my instincts told me otherwise and so I persisted in discussing girls' names.

Towards the end of the pregnancy he was more amenable to discussion, and we talked over various options over dinner at a restaurant one night, eventually hitting on the winner(s).

Under, I have a few favourites but the problem is that I spend ages thinking of names and whittling them down to the (very) few that I like, only to have Captain Fuckwit be utterly dismissive.

Girls' names I think we're ok on. Got a shortlist, which I'm happy with and he's not ruled out a few of them, so there's some room there.

Boys' names, however, are a nightmare. I've really struggled to come up with any that I like. The ones I do like start with the same initials as our two DDs (R & M) and I'm a bit funny about that. So, I was left with:

Angus or Joel.

Feel free to trash them as DH has already done just that.

There are no other boys names that I like. Literally, none.

Fuckity fuck.

Have scan tomorrow (yes, I know, I'm only 21 weeks so it's a bit tragic to be so wound up at this stage) and I'm so tempted to secretly find out, even though we agreed we wouldn't. I just figure that if it was another girl then I could relax and stop stressing about boys' names.

Mmm, I think I need to get out more Grin.

DH was the same - totally disinterested

willow5 · 10/03/2011 01:58

Mine exactly the same as yours and I feel slightly cheated as I too need to try them out. Mine suggested one before the baby was born and that was it for him 'job done' as others have said. As it happens it was the most popular name and I don't feel it justifies the many hours I spent thinking about names.
Sympathies from me!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/03/2011 09:01

My DH was the opposite. I had decided on the name I wanted, but he was adamant she wouldn't be called Lydia.
He came out with the most peculiar ideas (Trinity or Eden or Mary).
I got my own way with a compromise that wasn't Lydia.

Bettyspencer · 10/03/2011 09:12

Mine was same. Didn't offer much, just rejected many. I we chose lovely names in the end though, that have never regretted.

UnquietDad · 10/03/2011 09:13

Sounds to me as if you DH has it in perspective and is being very sensible.

Prinpo · 11/03/2011 17:13

Unquiet, who asked for the voice of reason here?

Having similar trouble here - DH is driving me nuts with his refusal to engage in a discussion about DS 3's name, who should be making an appearance in a few weeks time. He is happy to dismiss my carefully considered suggestions out of hand, but never offers anything sensible in return.

Unless you consider Superbaby and Muffin - courtesy of DS2 - to be sensible suggestions. Like DH does. Arrrgh.

You have my sympathy. It seems to be all I can think about at the moment but I can't actually make any decisions without him.

Fwiw, love Joel, and Angus is nice too.

PepsiPopcorn · 11/03/2011 18:20

It's not as easy as "just pick one" for most of us, is it? What if your DH "just picks one" and you don't like it? Better to have the time to discuss the options, I agree.

DesertOrchid · 11/03/2011 18:43

DH is just the same. I'm actually set on a name for this expected DD and have been since conception! Wasn't like this last time but this time am absolutely certain what her name is. DH unconvinced (although hasn't said no), but won't discuss it. He just says at some point he will weigh in with some 'strong' opinions.

If he had dicussed with me earlier on I might have been able to head off my one name obsession. But I warned him it would happen and it's been in my head too long now! I'm taking into the delivery room with me and if I have to beg and plead and cry I will!

Prinpo · 11/03/2011 19:50

Desert, what's the name???

Well, had the scan and (drum roll): it's a girl. Very very happy. Smile

Yes, we caved and found out. At least I feel as though I can relax a bit as I there are more girls' names on my (long) shortlist and I know there are a couple that DH will at least consider.

I dont thing I could do it without finding out as would drive myself mad!

Mine and DH's name discussions involve me realling off what ever is in my head at the time and him mostly saying no Angry

We now have a short list of 2 so will decide on the day
