What to call twins?

Twins on the way for July and already in a stress about names! DH quite traditional so all 'flowery' names seem to be out. Love Henry for a boy, but not sure about if two boys. And as for girls... quite liking Sadie and Emily, but DH like Harriet (doesn't go with Henry though if one of each). Ideas v welcome - finding out genders soon so can hopefully narrow down! Already have DD with fairly trad name so need to match (ish) - argggh

Hi and congrats!

I think we need a bit more to go on! Would you choose names with the same initial or different initials? Do you prefer names that sound very similar/rhyme or individual sounding names?

Finessa · 08/03/2011 10:37

Also would you want a different inital from DD or all three with the same initial? And if so what's her name or initial?!

harrygracejessica · 08/03/2011 10:55

Im pregnant with my 2nd set of twins - the last 2 were girls and these 2 are boys.

All of ours have ended up with names with a different 1st initial and a different ending of the name too (by fluke the ending was though) I personally dont like keeping them matching just because they are twins.

canyou · 08/03/2011 10:55

I am a lucky twin as my Aunt stepped in and named my DSis and me.
My mother wanted
Averil and April
April and May
Polly and Anna
Ann and Maire

Fortunately my Aunts and Dad insisted on family names, My DSis and I are best friends who freak everyone out by just understanding each other without having to speak.
Please don't go matchy with the names as it does not help with people seeing them as individuals.

How about...

gg
Emily and Harriet
Sadie and Harriet
Sophie and Harriet
Harriet and Henrietta (Hatty and Hetty!)
Jessica and Rebecca
Emma and Anna
Catherine and Charlotte - same initial, different sound

bb
Henry and James
Henry and William (!)
Henry and Matthew
Henry and Robert
Henry and Michael

bg
Any combination of the above!

NormanTheForeman · 08/03/2011 11:13

I agree with Pixie - definitely don't go for alliterative or rhyming names. I think it's ok to have two names which "go together" well, but things like Tom and Tim or Milly and Molly are just ridiculous.

TripleSprog · 08/03/2011 11:21

Thanks everyone! That's quite funny that the names above all include mine2, DH's2 and our siblings! DD is called Katie (Katherine), and I'd like all three to have different initials, definitely no same-initial twin names. Think will avoid names ending in 'a' to flow better with surname. Adore Genevieve and Ophelia but am 99% positive they wouldn't pass muster with DH. Liking James and Alexander so far...

Honestly!

tigermummy35 · 08/03/2011 22:43

Now on a more serious note, will you find out the sexes, to make the whole names thing easier?

ComeAlongPond · 08/03/2011 23:08

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 16:22

Instead of trying ot pick a pair why not jus list the individual names you like and then seeing which of them makes a nice (but not matchy) pair.

Has anyone said Simon, Peter, Rebecca or Helen yet, if not then of the really traditional names out there I think these are the nicest.

halfcaffodils · 09/03/2011 16:24

'This one' and 'that one'!
(That's what my aunt and uncle called their twins for the first few days before deciding on names!)

littlebillie · 09/03/2011 17:03

Thing 1 and Thing 2

Only joking, but you can get the tshirts which are so cute when they little

I have twins and their names don't match.

nagynolonger · 10/03/2011 08:14

I know of 3 sets of boy twins called William and Oliver.

Also a Jack and Jill (a bit unimaginative I thought)
Erica and Rebecca
Elizabeth and Alice
Emma and Matthew
Henry and James... to go with big brothers Thomas and Edward (thomas the tank engine!).

I would have loved to have had twins!
