Maurice?

what do you think of it? my (late) Dad was a monk (before he met my Mum, obv) and his 'monk name' was Maurus so i think Maurice would be a nice link.

i also think it would be adorable shortened to Mo.

my BF thinks he would be cruisin for a bruisin with this name. DP likes it.

think it's important your boyfriend and partner agree...

Mo is the name of one of my cats.

Maurice makes me think of Gibb.

BUT it's what you think that counts.

Definite name I'd avoid... Famous for the E.M. Forster book and subsequent film called Maurice about gay love...

if you do call him it shorten it to moe with an e (as in "five guys named moe"). mo is common nn for maureen.

i know someone with a little boy (well, he's 8 now) called Maurice and he is incredibly cool!

I can't use it myself cos it reminds me of my hideously abusive grandfather. But the name itself is lovely

Maurice is quite nice, but Mo sounds like a female nickname (for Maureen, Margaret etc)

Maurice is cool, I really like it. I wouldn't shorten it at all, it is easy enough to say. Agree that Mo sounds feminine.

I almost used this as a middle name - it's a family name. But DH didn't like it. Although he didn't come to the registry office and I had a wobble outside about using it as well as the agreed middle name!

I like it because it reminds me of my family member, I wouldn't consider it otherwise.

Cultural references probably are too cryptic for playground oiks, but I guess your son wouldn't spend his whole life in the playground? It brings to mind EM Forster's book for me too. (There again, I am of the age to have enjoyed the lovely film version with Hugh Grant and Rupert Graves.) But I doubt if there is a name going that doesn't have some connotations/references that MIGHT put you off ? just go for the name you like.

We have a friend with that name, also uses the nn Mo.
He's not girly or feminine in any way!
