Eleanor Smile

I can't get past the fact that Scarlett has the word Scar in it sorry.

Erica ok but can think of nicer names.

eleanor is lovely though

EauRouge · 26/02/2011 16:50

Like both Erica and Eleanor. I really dislike Scarlett, I just keep thinking the word 'woman' after it.

PepsiPopcorn · 26/02/2011 17:13

I like Erica and Eleanor. Scarlett is OK but prefer the other two names.

Looby4 · 26/02/2011 17:15

I have an Eleanor who is now 11. At School she is Eleanor, at home she is Ellie. Not too many around but easy enough to spell.
Like Scarlett too, not so keen on Erica but it's your baby!

pointydog · 26/02/2011 17:22

Eleanor def

catinthehat2 · 26/02/2011 17:48

bored with Scarlett, commonplace now

Eleanor a bit boring

Erica strangely unusual & appealing

mumtobee · 26/02/2011 18:10

Erica is not a very pretty name, and so many much nicer ones out there.
Scarlett makes me think of harlet.
Eleanor is definitely the best, lovely name - it is very popular though!

kangers · 26/02/2011 18:15

What about Erin?
Out of the three you mention I would also select Eleanor, then Erica but reminds me of the woman who stripped at the cricket in the 80's- Erica Wroe (?)- sorry- know it shows my age but many others will have the asscoiation too.
Ellice?
similar letters.....

CristinaTheAstonishing · 26/02/2011 18:16

Erica.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 26/02/2011 18:47

Don't like Erica, sorry. It's one of those names that is basically a boy's name with a feminine ending. Grin

Eleanor is nice. What about Elinor - far nicer spelling IMO, and Jane Austen liked it that way too!

collision · 26/02/2011 18:49

ooh no to Elinor.

Tis like Jorja for Georgia!!!

I actually love Scarlet and only think of a lovely red colour and not scar or scarlet woman.

Scarlet Eleanor is pretty.

meditrina · 26/02/2011 18:58

I like Elinor (it's the older form, isn't it. It's certainly the spelling used in Sense and Sensibility). I like Scarlett too, but am not keen on Erica (sounds spiky to me, and prefer Heather).

Ondine · 26/02/2011 19:53

Erica is really nice and quite under used. I like Nordic names, pretty but strong. Freya also is nice.

Eleanor is ok, a bit staid and there are hundreds of Ellie, Ella, Elle names so is a bit too popular.

Scarlett nice enough, but prefer Erica.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 26/02/2011 23:07

I can't believe that some people think that 'Elinor' is some horrible modern phonetic spelling of 'Eleanor'! Shock Sorry, that's just daft.

As far as I'm aware, Eleanor and Elinor and variations on those (Elinore, Ellinor, Eleanore etc) both go back hundreds of years. Eleanor in the English language goes back to the 12C (Eleanore of Aquitaine). The spelling of Elinor is more recent but probably a good few hundred years - I've certainly come across it in parish records from the 17th C (my mum does a lot of family history Grin). And Jane Austen was using it in the early 19thC.

No way can it be compared to 'Jorja' or 'Elyviya'. Hmm

MissHavishamsDress · 26/02/2011 23:08

No to Erica. Obvious similarity to Eric - just see a burly red-haired boy in my class at primary school.

I used to love Scarlett but feel it's become a little too down-market celeb wannabe..... like Ruby.

Eleanor is pleasant enough, it has a lovely sound but a little too tasteful, safe and sensible (and hence popular) for my liking, a little like Olivia.

berryshake · 26/02/2011 23:55

I think they're all lovely.

proudfoot · 27/02/2011 17:43

Eleanor

mathanxiety · 27/02/2011 18:10

Eleanor again.

ValiumSingleton · 27/02/2011 18:20

Eleanor definitely and by far

Scarlet is a bit too trendy
Erica is a bit frumpy imo

ValiumSingleton · 27/02/2011 18:20

ps Yes, the Elinor in Sense and Sensibility was Elinor.

Beamur · 27/02/2011 18:23

Like Eleanor the most - elegant name and Ellie always cute as a nn.
Scarlett is pretty, but a bit popular now
I'm torn about Erica, it's unusual but slightly hard sounding - is it the French version of Heather?

KAEKAE · 27/02/2011 18:50

Eleanor for me, it was on my SL when pregnant with my DS1 3.5 years ago. I don't mind Scarlett but I don't love it. Erica is not for me, I just see Eric which to me isn't pretty.

Hassled · 27/02/2011 18:52

Eleanor. Lovely name.

muminthemiddle · 27/02/2011 23:20

Either Eleanor or Scarlett but not Erica (too masculine)
I like both of the above but see them as very different types of names.

Eleanor says to me very traditional, and classic.

Scarlett is more modern/daring so hope this helps.

BulletWithAName · 28/02/2011 10:03

Scarlett by far.
