Archie or Finn?

LittleTeds · 22/02/2011 18:01

Both very popular I know but this does not bother me. These are the only two names we agree on and I've been through lots of name books!

We want to know what your husbands older sons etc would rather be called, so if your DH/BF/father/brother/older son is in the room then please ask them for me please Grin

I think Finn ages better because of the eee ending with Archie?

Finn definitely

flower38 · 22/02/2011 18:14

Finn although Im not over keen on either sorry.

CharlieBoo · 22/02/2011 18:25

Archie

rac123 · 22/02/2011 18:38

Really like them both - a friend of mine has an Archie which is short for Archer if you are not keen on eee being the only ending.

cece · 22/02/2011 18:43

Finn if I had to choose but wouldn't use either myself. Both are lovely for little boy but I just can't imagine either as a man.

LittleTeds · 22/02/2011 18:57

I don't mind if you dislike them. We all have different taste!

Archer is quite nice, but a bit too 'occupational' maybe.

Finn

farquor · 22/02/2011 19:23

Definitely Finn. It's no different to Tom, Sam, Max, John, Ben etc. I have a thing for one syllable boys' names.

Here is a grown up Finn:

Nice.

teobaldo · 22/02/2011 20:00

I really like Finn and Finley as well - Archie used to be the name of my dog and I like it as well but perhaps not for a baby...

cece · 22/02/2011 22:29

littleteds, Smile I don't suppose you would like my DS's names. I have seen them described on here as a bit meh. I don't care either, as I like them! So in answer to your OP I would go for Finn.

OliveMalay · 23/02/2011 11:21

Archie :)

Finn is a fish's name.

randomimposter · 23/02/2011 11:30

Finn.

paulbrom · 23/02/2011 11:44

Finn. Archie is a bit babyish/sounds like he might be a cat, and Archibald is a bit Shock

paulbrom · 23/02/2011 11:46

Also I know several old men called Archie who wear loud golf jumpers. And wasn't the camp kiltwearing man (the laird or summat) on Balamory called Archie?

It's quite a cute name, it just has...connotations in my mind, can't imagine Archie growing up to be sexy or tall/walk on his hind legs. Though it's popular so there's bound to be lots of cool and successful Archies in 20odd years time.

LittleTeds · 23/02/2011 14:49

Thank you for your replies. I have been asking most males I have come into contact over the last few days and they have all said they would rather be called Finn. I think Finn is pretty much a definite now!

My DP loved Finn throughout my pregnancy and I hated it as thought was too popular. But as soon as DS was born it suited him to a tee and I love it for him. We called him Finnard (DP is Irish) but call him Finn on a day to day

KAEKAE · 27/02/2011 19:02

Finn. I dislike Archie now, it was on my short list when pregnant, and I am really glad I didn't go for it. Its fast become the Alfie.

VagosaurusRex · 27/02/2011 19:10

I love the name Finn, but it's a slang word for 'urinate' in Arabic, so make sure you don't take your son to the Middle East! (Lebanon anyway)

threefeethighandrising · 27/02/2011 23:49

Finn, definitely. It was a very strong contender on our shortlist. The only thing that put me off was its popularity.

We named our DS after of of Finns sons (from Irish legend) in then end (coincidence, honest!)

The legends are great stories, and you could tell DS all about them when he's older.

humanfraggle · 28/02/2011 13:41

I'm not too keen on either, but I think while Archie makes a cute baby, Finn would 'age' better.

I can't imagine a 40-yr old Dr Archie Surname

Though it's so popular now, there's bound to be a Dr Archie Surname in 40 years' time!!

rachel1970 · 28/02/2011 13:53

Archie and Finn are both overused and will feel dated soon. Personally I prefer more timeless, less common names.

But if I had to choose, I'd choose Finn as I don't like cutey type names (Archie, Alfie, etc).

rachel1970 · 28/02/2011 13:54

Finn means to urinate in Arabic Shock. Actually that would make me reconsider, especially in an ever globalising world.

LittleTeds · 28/02/2011 15:00

Just because a name is overused, it doesn't mean it will become dated.

We've chosen Finn now and think it's pretty timeless and will age well. I know Finns of all ages.

I just emailed a friend, who speaks Arabic and said she's never heard of that slang term. I'm not worried about that anyway, I'm sure most names mean something dodgy in a language/slang somewhere.

Biased as we have a Finn. Fab name and ages very well!

daimbardiva · 08/03/2011 11:07

Finn, Finn, Finn! Love it! We'd be using it if bil/sil hadn't beaten us to it
