Elliott for a girl?

I really like Elliott for a boy and have started thinking about using it for a girl as well.

Do you know any Elliott girls?

What spelling is correct for a girl? Elliott or Elliot or Eliot ??? Maybe Elliotte?

I've only heard of Elliot Read in Scrubs - but I do quite like the name for a girl.

i know a baby girl Eliot. (after T.S)

very cute IMO

Maelstrom · 21/02/2011 18:37

Why? no. Would you call a boy "Rose"? is doable, nothing to stop you but it would give the child hell through out their lives.

I know an Italian boy called Andrea, it's difficult for him. Even when the name is perfectly boyish at his native Italy.

Don't know anyone but live it! Go for it! It's very special.

PearlBarley · 21/02/2011 19:18

Along with her other sister Dave and brother Penelope?

Raahh · 21/02/2011 19:42

No- Elliot is BOYS name (and I always pop up on threads like these to say Elliot in Scrubs was given a boys name by her father, as a joke. She had several older brothers, and they didn't expect her to be a girlGrin)

As for spelling- for a boy, I have a preference for Elliot (which I would, since it is ds's name). The surname tends to be Eliot/Elliott. As for Elliotte......HmmGrin

However you spell it for a girl, it will still be a boys nameSmile.

OliveMalay · 21/02/2011 19:46

I think of it as a boy's name. Haven't met a female Elliot.

Rhubarbgarden · 21/02/2011 20:46

Boys name. Daft on a girl.

2cats2many · 21/02/2011 20:47

Lovely and original.

rubyslippers · 21/02/2011 20:47

Elliott is a great name

For a boy

BelligerentGhoul · 21/02/2011 20:52

Dislike, sorry.

SilveryMoon · 21/02/2011 20:54

Love it for a girl. Is on my list for if we ever have a girl

PlymouthSound · 21/02/2011 21:01

Nope, really don't like this name, it sounds quite hard and masculine and leaves your little girl open to years of confusion and explanations. Is it worth it?

labtest · 21/02/2011 21:09

Doesn't Sting have a daughter called Elliot?

Nyx · 21/02/2011 21:20

I like it for a girl. I like the Eliot spelling - only if it is because of 'TS Eliot' though. Otherwise I would probably spell it Elliot. However, that's just me - I have no real reason for it!

piebald · 21/02/2011 21:24

I like it and if she didnt she could always use Ellie ( but def only one L) I dont think it is a common enough boys name to cause too much confusion. I know a family who all have it as a middle name

pippylongstockings · 21/02/2011 21:24

I really quite like it.

But then if we ever had a girl we would have called it Percy! Grin HOnestly I really like the whole ambigious male/female name thing.

thisisyesterday · 21/02/2011 21:26

the Eliot i know is Lottie for short

helpingout · 21/02/2011 21:27

I love it.

Fizzylemonade · 21/02/2011 21:33

There are 3 Elliot named boys in my son's year at school. I think it starts being hard when a name is almost always idenitified as being male or female.

There are two Taylors in the year, one is a girl and the other is a boy. Causes a lot of confusion.

Children can be very cruel and ask why have you got a boy's name?

I think it is a lovely name but for a boy.

pinksky · 21/02/2011 21:58

My niece is Elliot, nn Ellie. I really like it. Everyone assumes she's called something else, like Eleanor but no one has ever made a negative comment (explicitly!). Doubt it'll be a problem for her, she can just use her nn if she likes.

Like pippy I also really like more ambiguous names.

MajorBumsore · 21/02/2011 22:03

Dreadful. Sorry but it's very 'faddy' and common.
