Ivan - is it terrible?

I'm thinking about Ivan as a possible name for DC3. What do you all think? Will the "terrible" connotations haunt the poor child for life? Or is it an underused gem?

Honest opinions sought!

Yes, it is terrible

Pancakeflipper · 21/02/2011 10:58

I know an Ivan. He has red hair and got 'removed' from nursery due to his behaviour. He's brilliant but glad I am not his teacher at school... Got a big temper.

OliveMalay · 21/02/2011 10:59

I think it's fine, but if you're worried about "terrible" jokes how about Evan instead?

BendyBob · 21/02/2011 10:59

It does make me think of someone with an enorrmous beard for some reason. Is that Ivan the terrible?Confused

I'm not keen personally.

BiscuitBob · 21/02/2011 11:08

No, I think its nice.

agora1 · 21/02/2011 14:17

I love it!

jellybeans · 21/02/2011 15:39

Not keen on it but like Evan.

ValiumSandwich · 21/02/2011 15:46

ha ha

I like it. It's much better than Evan.

ValiumSandwich · 21/02/2011 15:55

Pancakeflipper, i can't believe your post. 'i know one and he's got a temper, and he's got red hair'. Confused Shock

Nospringflower · 21/02/2011 16:20

Like Ivan and dont like Evan.

thunderbird69 · 21/02/2011 16:28

What about Ivo? (as in the Cocteau Twins song)

Pancakeflipper · 21/02/2011 16:41

Valium - don't believe. I am not even being rude whatever... I know a boy called Ivan who has wonderful curly red hair and a the loudest temper I have yet to witness ( and I have seen some beauts in my time).

And tbh his parents should have twigged this was likely as they both have red hair and they both have huge competitive spirits ( which is a polite way of saying they were monsters as kids). His teacher earns her wages with him. When his mother informs me of his antics I do have to turn slightly so she cannot see me giggle - he's brilliant.

LetThereBeRock · 21/02/2011 16:46

I love it.

Umnitsa · 22/02/2011 00:38

Love it!

How are you going to pronounce it - the Russian way

(Ee-vAh-n) or the English (AI-van)?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 22/02/2011 08:55

No, just no.

apples82 · 22/02/2011 09:07

Aside from "the terrible", I also have a neighbour called Ivan, and he is an old bugger, so there are double connotations in my mind that say hell no! Smile

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 22/02/2011 10:11

I do like Evan as well, but Ivan just popped into my head and I thought oooh...don't know many of them. There is no red hair in our family, but if he's anything like DS1 & DS2, he will be both boisterous and loud. And I guess he could grow a beard when he was older if he liked.

Would pronounce it Eye-van.

How about Ivor?

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 22/02/2011 12:07

Thanks for the suggestion, but it always makes me think of Engine!

Love your thread title but not overly fond of the name. :)

ReshapeWhileDamp · 22/02/2011 12:14

I adore Ivan! Smile DH doesn't so it wasn't even on the shortlist. Sad

faverolles · 22/02/2011 13:32

Love the name. :)
My Ivan isn't terrible at all.

Bearcrumble · 22/02/2011 13:36

Not keen on it. Also, makes me think of David Cameron's son straight away.
