How would you say it?

Aw-rell-ee-an or Aw-ree-lee-an?

Or another way?

We have an Aurelien nearby. (Or-ray-li-an)

Gets called Rails.

Hatterbox · 20/02/2011 11:18

Or-ray-lee-an

I love it.

detoxdiva · 20/02/2011 11:34

Op asked how it would get pronounced. That's how it gets pronounced here. Surely better OP is aware of every way their child's name could be said, before embarking on a lifetime of correction, before the child settles for a nn anyway? Hmm

It sounds a bit like alien, though?

weimy · 20/02/2011 14:12

Lovely, there is also Aurelio which is Italian.

weimy · 20/02/2011 14:13

o ray lee an

O ray lee oh

Underachieving · 20/02/2011 14:15

Au-ree-lee-an

And I know it's poncey and I probably really shouldn't but I totally utterly love it!

(OH would never let me).

2and1ontheway · 20/02/2011 14:59

My daughter's best friend is Aurelia (her mum says Aw-ray-lee-a but I can't get out of the habit of calling her Or-ray-lee-a, even though we have known her 3 years, so think if you pick a name like this you will inevitably hear varied pronunciations/ mispronunciations). We live in Germany but I don't know that it is German as have never come across anyone else with that name - her siblings have unusual names too - sister is Adina, brother is Jarik, haven't come across another of either of those either.

Or-ell-i-an

Have taught a few (all French)

I find it very girly for a boy.

RJandA · 20/02/2011 15:27

Just a word of warning - she will get called Aurelie for short, which sounds like "orally".

It's a lovely name though, IMO, I mean it, she just might come in for a bit of stick when she's about 13 or 14.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 20/02/2011 15:36

Well DC will be half French but the girlie comments are putting me off. Plus the fact I have no idea how to say it in English!

I did veto 'orally' for a girl!
