DC3 due in 2 weeks (elcs) and have no boys name at all. Have 2 DD's and have a third DD name which DH and I are happy with. We have thought of these boys names which we think are ok, but nothing that seems just right as with our DD's names previously. Our surname is similar to Lowe and these are the two names - Joseph (Joe) and Adam. Honest opinions please?! TIA.

I love the name Adam and also Ethan (DS's name).

geisha · 24/02/2011 14:22

Ok, think we're down to two names now. Finley or Finton (known as Finn) and Gabriel (probably known as Gabe). I'm aware that these are very popular names and not sure how much that bothers me really. I know of 3 Finn's in our town (sure there are more) and 3 Gabriel's. How many of each do you know and do you have a preference?!

Growing - like Ethan, certainly worth baring in mind.

Adam is such a lovely name. I only know one and he is in his 30's, but is a very close family member so couldnt use the name for my DCs!

Finn is nicer than Gabe and goes better with your DDs names I think

geisha · 24/02/2011 14:36

Tallulah - I think Adam is a nice name too. Reminds me of a gentle but strong boy/man iykwim. It has been suggested to me that it's a bit plain though? My DD's actually have chosen Finn and it's only thanks to them we are reconsidering it.
Just saw Elliot on another thread which I like as a name but unfortunately associate with a boy from DD1's class last year who was a bit challenging. Do you think that I can get over that?

Finn! It's what we're going for.

I prefer Finlay to Finton but prefer just Finn as that's what he'll most probably be called most of the time.

I'm not very fond of Gabriel.

geisha · 24/02/2011 14:37

Is Finn popular in your area LittleTeds and if so does it bother you?!

Lonnie · 24/02/2011 14:39

both are nice solid names I prefeer Adam was on my own shortlist for my son.

LittleTeds · 24/02/2011 14:47

Not overly popular. Nothing like James, Jack, Josh, George, Sam and Ben etc! It's certainly not an unusual name though.

snala · 24/02/2011 14:49

Our ds's are Ethan and Declan.
Declan Lowe.
Megan, Lucy and Declan?
I like it Grin

geisha · 24/02/2011 15:12

Same as here. Snala - like Ethan, hadn't thought of Declan....

I don't know any Gabriels OP. Amazing the regional variation isn;t it!

Fin/ley and other variants - quite a few including (I'm sorry) a really not very nice child (and I say that very rarely) - but you don't know him so that's OK! Also one of DS1's best mates in yr 6 who is lovely so that makes up for it! He is Finn btw rather than Finlay which I prefer because of the spelling issues.

revoltingrhymes · 25/02/2011 22:00

I know a lovely Finn (I think he is Finlay). His brother is Jude which I see you've also considered!

I just cant get to grips with Gabriel, just a bit too soft sounding!

geisha · 03/03/2011 11:47

Thanks for all of your suggestions and advice. Just wanted to let you know that we have decided on a name..... if he is a he, he will be known as Finn. We are yet to decide on the exact name ie Finlay, Finley, Finton, Finian but we know that he's going to be FInn. As before if he's a she, she will be Sophia. Got there in the end!

Love the names Finn and Sophia. I don't know any boys called Finn in my area and only know of Sophies not a Sophia. Congrats to you for deciding on names! Can't wait till I'm in that position!

Thanks White Smile
