baby name regrets still at 8 months

Still having regrets every so often about my DS name at 8 months old. Just not sure its too 'now' and doesn't really suit him. We chose it at the last minute at the 6 weeks deadline to get him registered as we couldn't agree.. Really wanted a classic name for my DS but worry he's got a 'fashion' name now. Sometimes I can't sleep at night for thinking is it too late to change it and he'll have to live with it! And I'm not sure I can but i know family and DP would think me crazy. Cant use any of his middle names either, we really didn't choose well for him. Thinking I should change one of his middle names and then start calling him this!

Hope you're feeling better about it now. I have an Isaac too and also had similar feelings early on. I think it's a name that takes some growing into. We've generally called DS Isey or something else from the large range of ridiculous nicknames we have for him, but now (at 2.5) it's starting to suit him. The meaning of it combined with the timelessness of it makes it a lovely name, I think.

Am having similar feelings about our DD's name, who is 5 months, so I reckon it's just something we have to go through. As their personalities develop, they really 'become' their name (apart from DH's badly-named nephew who has never suited his).

Thank you. I've angsted for 7 months (longer if you count the indecision befor we registered) and was getting to the point where i was thinking if i'm still not sure about his name i need to change it now or never. But I really am feeling so much better about it! I have had some nice comments about his name from mostly strangers, doctors etc but none from relatives, so this has helped so much!

As mummypontpine says if the midwife had just given me his name like a cabbage patch doll and said 'That's it love, I'm afraid, you can't change it', i might have been a bit disappointed with some names but that would have been it!

This naming lark is a minefield. I was thinking today I'll need a couple of years next time to get it right, (if there is a next time.)

I have an Isaac who is now 6 and I love the name. I have never come across any bad comments about it and only compliments. I have noticed that his friends at school call him Isey but we never do.

I am currently struggling on picking a name for number 2 which is due in June. The naming lark is defo hard.

Hmm have been thinking about this thread and am now putting Issac on my list for this bump. Its really gorgeous - please dont change it.

DomesticGoddess31 · 27/02/2011 11:26

Isaac is on my list....think its a lovely name and love the nn Zac too.

All names are 'fashion' names to a degree. I have a 'classic' name but I have not come across anyone under 15 with the name, names will always go in and out of fashion and Isaac is more in fashion now than 30 years ago, but so what? It's still a classic name.

The only boys name I can think of that never seems to go out of fashion is James. I know James's from 0 to 90!

Isaac is lovely....not a fashion name at all IMO.
Don't worry about the comments on here...it's not RL!

hopnpop
I could have written your op
down to him being called Isaac.
Now at nearly two I still regret it but can't imagine calling him anything else. He's grown into it. though I do tend to call him Izy (eye-zee)

bronze · 27/02/2011 16:05

We pronounce it would a softer sound than a z
I dont think Zac is short for Isaac.

bronze · 27/02/2011 16:06

Actually I write it Izy but say it with the softer sound eye-szee is closest I can get written down

Oh my, when I read your original post and it said your ds's name was a 'fashion' name I expected something stupid like Usher but Isaac is a lovely name. It is 'different' but in a good way. YOU like it and that is what is important. :)
