I like Hector.

Violet is lovely and I don't think Daphne lives up to it, personally.

Violet and Yolande
Violet and Hermione
Violet and Elinor
Violet and Beatrice
Violet and Emmeline
Violet and Ishbel/Isobel/Isolde

MelinaM · 19/02/2011 17:01

Hector is lovely! Daphne is just plain awful I'm afraid, very 70's imo, sorrySmile As Daphne means Laurel how about that instead? Davinia and Davina sound very like Daphne so they could be possible options.

OliveMalay · 19/02/2011 17:14

Violet and....

Xanthe
Charlotte
Penelope

Henry
Alexander
Gabriel

Violet and
Iris
Constance
Eliza

(not keen on Daphne either I'm afraid).

Hector's nice (what would you use for NN?).

Notnowcato · 19/02/2011 22:24

I'm starting a campaign to re-instate Anita. What about it?

Hector is fantastic. Cosmo as a possible alternative?

Greenwing · 19/02/2011 22:33

I am the opposite - I like Daphne and not Hector (because of the meaning of the verb 'to hector' somebody).

DesertOrchid · 19/02/2011 23:01

I think Daphne is great. I predict it being one to make people go 'oooh - I'd forgotten how nice that was'.

redstripeyelephant · 20/02/2011 09:57

I love Daphne! Hector is ok, though a bit too old-man-chic for me.

How about...

Delphine
Iris
Polly
Imogen

Nathaniel
Isaac
Caspar

Glamour · 20/02/2011 10:01

love both of them!! bring back Daphne i say!

tummytickler · 20/02/2011 10:43

Both lovely.

MissHavishamsDress · 20/02/2011 10:49

Nope, mind has not been changed, so far!!, we do both love Daphne, the fact it is currently not so popular is a bonus, in our opinion. I would say it was a 30s, rather than 70s name. Although the 30s via the 70s are having a boom at the mo in fashion circle, then Daphne is on the pulse!

Olive,( I do love Olive too, but dh not) my mother is`Penelope, which is beautiful, but would be too confusing to have 2 of them.

redstripe, a nephew is Nathaniel, so that's out.

I do rather like Delphine, though to me, it's difficult to say without a southern American twang, and Daphne trumps it.

Iris and Violet together would be a bit too twee? and little Irises are not unknown around this neck-of-the woods, also know a Hermione, many Charlottes and an Isobel.

To me, Daphne conjurs up a diaphanous nymph, yet has gumption too, it's a happy name. Any Future dd is going to have a crown of dark curls, like her elder sister, and, for me, that would suit her down-to-the ground.

Keep on trying! I love to hear your ideas!!

Jasper
Wilbur
Abraham
Benedict
Roman

Really not keen on Daphne. Sorry. Cannot lie.
It's so prissy and 'maiden Aunt' and reminds me of the nymph turned into a tree in Greek myth. NO.

Sorry.

How about:

Claudia
Lydia
Elspeth
Estelle
Octavia
Martha
Ellen
Ada
Clarissa
Ursula
Sylvia
Jemima
Cecily
Georgiana
Agatha
Beulah

smother · 20/02/2011 21:00

Maud (love this!)
Margot (even better!)
Delia
Mabel
Agnes
Martha
Ines

MelinaM · 20/02/2011 21:39

Daphne reminds me of a character from 'The Broons' a Scottish comic strip.

MazzzaG · 20/02/2011 22:16

Delphine is similar to Daphne pronounced del-feen or delfin I think is the French way, just thought I'd mention it as I love the French name and meaning dolphin. Good luck
